So, just 11 weeks to go until jet2.com hits the tarmac in Dalaman. Have been playing with the new Samsung Tablet to blog from the hammock, BL!

Definitely bad news wth fat fingers.

But first, Mr Blobby needs to go from white to pink. So, just 3 weeks until KLM touches down in Dubai to give my Michelin Man torso a flash of sun for 9 days, while I disappear up my iPod in the shadow of The Burj.

Holiday season almost here and Antler is on a roll......

Tortoise Lady - I am sure I owe you a response from somwhere - apologies. Will make up for it over the canapes on the Ottoman Terrace at ours! Or yours. Do you know if fresh scallops can be bought in Kalkan?

Awww - Dubai! Now you're really making me envious, Antler. We have been going to Dubai at around this time of year for 12 years, but had to give it a miss this year. We always stayed at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel (although it has gone downhill a bit over the years - too many unpleasant, badly-behaved children these days), so I know and love that feeling of watching the shadow of the Burj track across as the day wears on. Not to mention the Burj's light-show at night.

Hi Antler, great to hear from you again.    I don't remember seeing fresh scallops for sale in Kalkan but as I don't really cook when there I haven't looked for them.   Last year there was a new restaurant, I think just slightly uphill from Kaya, specialising in fish.   Someone on the forum recommended it and we ate there on two evenings.   There was a selection of fresh fish to buy out at the front of the restaurant.   There is also a fresh fish shop just behind the taxi rank I understand.   If you were to be hiring a car and going into Fethye at any point I hear there is a wonderful fish market there.   You would need a chilled bag of course otherwise the fish might not be so fresh when you got back to Kalkan!

Look forward to joining you for canapes at your place.   When you join us for drinks I cannot say I will be making canapes but can offer our own olives and you can sample our olive oil with a dash of balsamic vinegar (vinegar not our own).  We mostly shop at Yali and last year they started to sell a larger variety of bread - one in particular seemed just made for dipping.

The recommended little chopper came in especially useful last night when a curry recipe required really finely chopped onion.   Glad I bought a second one to keep in UK.  The chopper for Kalkan is already in a suitcase so I don't forget it.  Sounds as if you are going to enjoy cooking in Kalkan.

We are all looking forward to your reports from Kalkan in due course.

Antler, if you like fish you need to make a visit to the fish market in Fethiye - quite an experience :)
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

At the Fethiye Fishmarket you can by your fish and in the restaurant around it they prepare it for you for just 6 TL. To that restaurants you also can take yourmeat from the butcher and they will prepare it also for 6 TL (including bread and salad).
Every sunday on the Akbel market in Kalkan you can buy fresh fish. We buy it there every week and it is good quality.

Antler I think the guy at the fish shop near the taxi rank under the road has scallops sometimes.  :)

Yes I think he supplies quite a few of the restaurants - do you know where I mean? There's quite a good veggie shop there as well.

No, I am not really sure where it is as I can't say I have ever noticed it around there? But I guess I will find it?!

Remember the old taxi rank on the right as you walk down the main street towards the Moonlight/Utopia bar? Just there are some steps that go to a small market place (to your right as you go down you would see cardiac hill and Bar Chocolate/Fotos pizza.  There's a fishmonger, veggie shop and a couple of other shops there. The fishmonger is first on your left at the bottom of the steps.  Hope he's got the scallops after all that!! Skunk.

If you know where the taxi rank is you won't miss it...! Isn't lovely to still be making discoveries in a place as small as Kalkan :)

Currently honing my writing skills abroad, ready for June 8th in Kalkan. Can't get on with the Samsung Tablet - takes up too much drinking time!  Base tan is coming along nicely (30C in the pool and 29C out of it today - locals think it is cold enough for snow!!!)

Celebrating Mrs A's Birthday today.

Cheers
