I first came to Kalkan anout 7 years ago and the mossie amd wasps were quite bad then.

We returned last Sepember and was not bothered with either and also this June, as I said it was the olive flies. We stay at the Meldi Hotel and it has been lovely not to be bothered by these pests. I wonder if Kalkan has tackled the problem with wasps as they do with mossies?

I have been in Icmeler Sept/Oct and wasps have been a nuisance then, we was on a boat trip and the whole day was ruined by wasps swooping down on everyone and this was out at sea! At least with mossies you can get sprays to deter them but those stripey things are not bothered.

Back next week and I do hope I am not speaking toosoon!

What about wearing black leather and smothering yourself very slowly in olive oil?

Dear Kalkaners

The Avon cream seems popular. Noted. In case of no supply I am advised the sure way to keep them at bay is to intake the following secret formula. Its black and sticky. You either love it or hate it !
A little of the black stuff on a piece of bread daily should do it.

For more indoor options burn incense.
In India, coils of incense burning slowly on the ground near where people gather are very popular.

:)
I realised I was Dyslexic when I turned up at Toga party dressed as a Goat.

So BL - I deduce from that - that you are NOT a lover of the black yummy stuff - so you won;t be smothering yourself in it in that case....back to Olive Oil for Joan then..!   ;) ;) :o

my OH always takes the "jar" and vitamin B1..she takes no chances...this coupled with Boots"repel" silver bottle (50% deet)....plus she has me to lure the biters away!! ..Kalkan is loads better than it was since the "busters" have been active.....as for the offer of jam and lemon curd and olive oil....i would be like a trifle runnuing through kalkan :D

hi all
came back from kalkan two weeks ago, i think it has something to do with what you eat, asbeen to turkey for the last five year and never had any problems. that was untill this year.
I can only put it down to eating sea food, sounds silly but i never eat sea food but this year i did, and guess what, yes i got bitten, and so did some three out of the four of us, the only person that did not get bitten was the one that did not eat sea food. just test it out .

I swapped to Avon''s SSS this year for the first time and was bitten like mad. After persevering for 4 days I gave up and bought something with deet in it from Yali Supermarket. Yes I know deet is bad for you and the vapour is bordering on unpleasant but I wasn''t bitten again... :)
I''ve done deet (the Boots one same as BL), no perfume and antihistames for two weeks before our trip and for the length of our stay for the last 4 years and I''ve avoided being bitten, so I''m annoyed with myself that I changed my routine this year....just because I wanted to smell nice ::)
Moral of the tale - find out what works for you and stick with it.
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

I hope that this is not the kiss of death, but my wife suffers badly if bitten but has taken to using the OFF cream that you can buy here in Kalkan. Its also acts as a moisturiser and smells quite pleasant (made by Johnsons I think). Touch wood she has not been bitten so far this holiday.
