I shall definitely make a note of that, I really suffered with the little blighters, the last couple of years. Last year there was a couple staying at the Korsan and the young lady was very badly affected by a reaction to this blighters. Her glands swelled and she was suffering from a constant headache as well as the itchy lumps in her scalp. I supplied a couple of antihistimine tablets and they managed to reduce the swellings and get rid of the headache until she could get some from the chemists.
I wonder if Tea Tree oil might work as well?

Where would a couple of mosquitoes get the money to stay at the Korsan?

Two Septembers back, we had a major attack and a mate had over 100 bites (his own fault, opening the window WITHOUT the screening!).  I was swatting them in the bathroom, just post shower and it was like a scene from Carrie or All Creatures great and small.  The sprays in Turkey seem to be more concentrated than here in the UK.  If anyone wants a tip to take away the itch once bitten, I was once told to press your thumbnail across the white part of the bite like a hot cross bun, which apparently breaks up the nasty stuff and allows the bite to go down.  You''re welcome!

Hi Eniste,
I was talking about the dreaded Olive Flies, (my head has started itching, just thinking about them). Also, my eyesight does not run to identifying the sex of mosquitoes!!!!! LOL

OK, happy to add that I only saw a few olive flies during our time in Kalkan in July.  Not sure if they were green or black olive flies, but same type couples may be the rage in their circles too!  Got a couple of unidentified bites thenwhich were not mozzies, so I guess that explains it!

Thanks kevincat, will give it a try. Are the olive flies likely to be there in September?

Olive flies are usually out in May, but for the last couple of years, they have continued to maraud well into June. They hide in the shrubs and seem to come out biting with a vengence in the late afternoon.

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.

Hi there,

We was in Kalkan in June and the worst problem for us was those tiny olive flies which bit me more than mossies, especially on the head!

We are back next week but wondering what the wasp situation is like now. My friends daughter is in Olu Deniz and she has been plagued by wasps at the lagoon. Must say in June I saw none...were they still sleeping then? I hate the things.

I don''t know about wasps but last year in early October we visited Olu Deniz whilst in Kalkan. We drove round the lagoon and intended to eat lunch by it but when we pulled up and got out of the car (twice) it smelled terrible and there were loads of flies so we moved on.

Tottally agree Itstime,
You know how smooth and soft Lily''s and mine were this July. No bites in August for our big party of 37 friends. So must have worked!
Thanks for the advice

We was in Kalkan this time last year and noticed no wasps and no bites from mossies, but when I heard about Olu Deniz being plaguedwith wasps at the lagoon got meorried.

Strangely I have not seen ONE wasp in my garden this year but last year had a nest in the eaves.

Regading the blue lagoon, I was not impressed at all yet my friend thought it was "paradise"....she is coming with us to Kalan next week then she will see what is paradise!

Hi BarbH - yes - I know what you mean - we thought the Blue Lagoon was TOTALLY overrated and IMHO not a patch on Patara beach - it makes for lovely aerial views and looks stunning from the air - but in reality - it is not that nice on the ground....sorry gone off topic here...  :o :o
