Another good holiday in Kalkan!
« on: June 21, 2011, 03:12:19 PM »
Hi all,
Well we're back from our 2nd holiday in Kalkan and once again it didn't dissappoint!!
We stayed at the Lizo hotel with Sarah and Ali, Mehmet and Gushen and like last year really enjoyed our stay there. No complaints at all about the hotel, this year we were in the New block as we were repeat guests. The food is still really good in the hotel, as is the bbq night.
We met Allan and Joy from the forum who were also there the same time as us.
We were very lucky with the water situation as the Lizo has a large emergency water tank so thankfully we weren't affected by the cuts.
We had no problems whatsoever with the dogs, we were only escorted home once by a small pack of them and they just quietly walked along side us till they got to their 'invisible line'. Daisy walked  a short way with us a couple of times and i totally fell in love with her!! They were too busy sleeping in the heat to be any bother to anybody and i wear earplugs at night anyway so i never hear a thing.
I met Maggi(aka Saskia) from KAPSA , she is a godsend to the street animals of Kalkan.

We had a Turkish bath for the first time ever and really enjoyed the experience, we had the Regency recommended to us before we went and i can highly recommend it, especially sitting afterwards wrapped in warm towels sipping mint tea which we needed as the young masseur took great delight in throwing cold water over us!!

We did 2 boat trips with Captain Osman and Zeynap on Yildiz, no need to go into detail as his trips are well known!!

Now for the important bit, FOOD!!

We ate at quite a few different places this year and only went back to the same place twice which was Mussaka on the harbour and we chose to have our last night here.

We ate at;
Cafe Zula, we had a starter here which was the humous and bread and whilst it was lovely we ate too much of it!! I had the shrimp casserole which was really good.

Kalamaki, still as good as last year , i had swordfish skewers and Stephen had steak, still one of our favourites.

Zeki's la terazza, again had humous and bread to start here, lovely, and both had pasta which we really enjoyed.

Chillies, our cheapest night out was here, the food was lovely but the only niggle was we felt the staff try too hard and are a bit too fussy with constantly wiping crumbs from our table and loitering close by but it wouldn't put us off going again as the food was so good.

Bread and More, started off here with a couple of cocktails before our meal, i had chicken in pomegranite sauce and Stephen had lamb shank, both very good and the people are lovely here.

Ozalp, this was one of my favourites, had swordfish fillet with prawns , calmari, and mussels in a cream/wine sauce, delicous!! Stephen had the lambshank.

Chapter one, loved this restaurant, the people , the ambience, and the decor is spot on. And Janes lemon cheesecake lived up to it's expectation!!

Mussaka, still our favourite, love it's location on the harbour, i had the Moussaka the first night here, then on the last night had seabass fillet with shrimps, Stephen had steak and mixed grill, just love the food here and Mehmet and the guys are lovely. We noticed this was one of the busiest restaurants on the harbour.

Cafe del mar, called here a couple of times for iced coffee and cake, has a really nice chilled out vibe to it.

Cafe vita, only found this place a few days before we came home and it's only at the back of our hotel! Joy and Allan recommended it so we went a couple of times and had the famous egg and chips!!

For drinks we went to Moonlight bar were we loved to sit and peoplewatch whilst drinking the odd raki or two!!

So overall another fabulous holiday in beautiful Kalkan, and as i write this it's pouring with rain in Yorkshire!!

Great report, Nicky. So glad you enjoyed your second visit  :)
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

We also tried Chapter One for the first time this year. Jane made us very welcome and the food was lovely. Unfortunately we went on night 11 of our holiday - you know the one when you want to eat but you have reached that I am stuffed and can't really do anything proper justice. I wanted to try the renowned puds but just couldn't make it. Plan to go earlier in our holiday
 next time.

Glad you enjoyed your second holiday Nicky and loved your report.

suziq....not sure I ever reach that point on holiday were I'm unable to eat :o :o That's what the hills are for - to keep my appetite and to enable me to still fit into my clothes at the end of our stay  Alcohol...that's different. I do at some point usually say I think I've had enough of drinking every night... ::)

Hi Nicky,
So glad you enjoyed your holiday.
I remember the angst you went through before your first holiday here and the help you received from people on here to get the most out of it. So it is especially good that in spite of a lot of negatives this year you returned and had yet another great holiday.
Joan
