Hi Kevincat
We had a curry in the UK tonight! We ate all we could, as there was some left (we can have it for breakfast >:D ), and it only cost 15 Uk Pounds for 2 people!

That tells me that some places in Kalkan seem to be loosing all sense of reality and their only object seems to make as much money as possible
50 TL for one person seems very very expensive for Indian food, which as you say Em1 is not that expensive to make , or is this only my view?? Add to this drinks and it's becoming a very expensive evening out
The last Indian we had here was also expensive and lasted only a matter of weeks - doe does this maybe tell you something??

Hi Kevincat
It tells you it is time for a trip to Calis Beach for a curry!

Perhaps you should try it before you slate it, you may find (as I am sure it is) that it is value for money.

Em1, £15 plus transfers, flights and I bet it's raining where you are? The Regency sounds even better value ;)  and the same cost as the petrol to Calis!

:)  We went to one of the barbeque nights at the Regency a couple of weeks ago and that was £20 each. I actually thought it was a superb evening, fantastic food served in lovely surroundings with great entertainment provided. As a special treat it was well worth splasing out. But I agree it is expensive and a one off for us - but a one off we would like to repeat every now and again.

yes your right should be about that price in Uk since there is tons of indian restaurants all over the country, but getting everything together in kalkan is a different story. not like you all dont know. even a jar of nutella is more expensive than it is in istanbul.
regards

We plan to try the Regency Indian night this next Tuesday, mainly because it's a welcome change from the usual fare.  But it will most likely be a 1-time thing. We think about 80% of the restaurants in Kalkan have priced themselves out of the market for those of us who live here in retirement.

We recently paid TL 50 p/p in a restaurant near the harbour, food nothing exceptional or expensive to make.  The restaurant owners are testing the limits. I know at least 5 families who stopped eating out 2 years ago!  I wonder how they will survive when tourists opt out too?

I was in Kalkan last week and, apart from a coffee at Merkez, didn't eat out at all! When I come back in the summer with my family, I think it will be very unlikely that we will want to pay these high prices.

yes we can discuss the price all year on, but there is many reason too choose that range. you just need to know the past 8 years in this country how tax went so high, with fuel (most expensive in the world), and many more increases on everything. From Regency Hotel 42 families are putting food at their table. if you dont find the price suitable, thats fine, thanx for your interest anyway.

Stash, I will definately try to get there one Tuesday night, thanks for letting us know.

As a side issue:It's very apparent that Kalkan is attracting not such an exclusive market. Perhaps this is due to the multitude of villas available, therefore the accommodation price being pushed down in the low season. It's sad to see.......

I honestly don’t think that £20 per head for an all you can eat buffet is unreasonable for Indian food. Our local takeaway can cost us about £30 for two and it doesn’t come with the same stunning scenery, lovely ambiance and excellent service you get at the Regency. Having just come back from mainland Spain, where the food was at best average, the prices truly extortionate and the service dismal, I can only say I know where I’d rather be!

Having an Indian meal is a very common practice in the UK and it is considered to be a fairly cheap meal.  We are spoilt for choice with Indian restaurants and takeaways everywhere so when we hear that a meal for two will cost 100 lira it is a bit of a shock.  Having said that I can appreciate that Indian food is not available in Kalkan and the Regency have noted this and would like to offer some quality Indian food cooked by an Indian chef.  Perhaps if there was some entertainment included in the price it would be considered better value and attract more people who are missing their spicey fix!

Hi
Although there are posts stating that food has gone up in price, which it has, the majority of food in Kalkan shops is much cheaper than the UK. I bought some chicken breasts in Kalkan a few weeks ago, and was shocked by their cheapness. I am always shocked by how much fruit and veg I can buy for 20 lira in Kalkan. So how can a curry cost so much in Kalkan, or many other meals?
I am eating out less and less in Kalkan, and when I do I frequent the cheaper places.
If I am very lucky Kevincat takes me to Calis Beach for lunch, and we shop in the local market and shops where the reduced prices more than cover the fuel bill there.
Some Kalkan restaurants are beginning to price themselves out of the market in my humble opinion.
