Hi All,
Sorry if this is in the wrong place but just heard Kalkan as a new mayor, The information I''ve received is..... it''s the owner of the Lighthouse restaurant down in the harbour so I take it it''s Siam. Not sure if this is good or bad news only time will tell.
Kalkan is celebrating tonight though.
All the best to all

Is it just a quiet morning or has the new mayor taken early action to quell the rise of EK?

Its the CHP [Republicans Peoples Party ] party who also won in Kas - the AK party also lost control of major cities in Turkey such as Izmir and Antalya
Time will tell what changes it will bring to Turkey and Kalkan for locals and ex patriates alike
Check the results out on  http://www.hurriyet.com.tr/english/home/ or http://www.todayszaman.com

Given Boris Johnson''s family links with Turkey and recent visits to Kalkan, what chance do you think he might have of standing there next time around, assuming his current electorate may well have tired of his lunacy by then?

The Kalkan election result is not confirmed.  The CHP (Republican People''s Party - founded by Ataturk and the oldest political party in Turkey) won the count by 26 votes.

This is a centre left, secular party and enjoys a great deal of support among the small business people of Kalkan. It was the only party which had a woman as part of its election team and has had very wide appeal to women voters. It has excellent plans for the short and long term future of Kalkan and is committed to curbing future development until such times as the infra-structure is in place. It has a also made a commitment to preserve the green belt areas of Kalkan and allow no further development in these areas,  which have already been despoiled.

The AK Party- centre right, and Islamist were so shocked by the defeat of their candidate, the existing Mayor who has been in power for ten years, that they have lodged an appeal and gone to court to try and have the result overturned. This party has the support of all the big property developers who of course do not want to see their future building plans curbed.

This is a very tense time in the village. Feelings and emotions are running very high. There is a great deal at stake not just for the future of Kalkan  but also for the democratic process.

The result of the appeal should be known within the next few days.

MHP also had a woman as part of their election team it was only the AK Party that didn''t.

Well, I''ve read it and all I can say is where is the money going to come from?
Look out for some sharp increases in the local tax.
