""How silly of me - I thought this section was called politics and debate.  Are you really saying that reflecting what is being said by people who live here  ( Turkish ) and what is actually going on in Kalkan at the moment is against forum guidelines?

Surely Enjoy Kalkan is not so insecure that it cannot allow open discussion of issues which are of concern to anybody who lives here or who owns property here. Judging by the number of members who have read the posts on this thread, I would have thought this topic was of great interest.

If you do not want open debate then remove the politics and debate section.

Lantana

Obviously the forum is insecure! This is a post/quote taken from a post by Brooksie it is now no longer there in its original!

I too am with Lantana why have a section called politics and debate if all we can do is talk in platitudes?
Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.

I also support Lantana''s right to express her ''too political'' opinion, which in fact, is correct.  Many people of all nationalities have spoken in private conversations about our previous Mayor''s bad development policies and other unpleasantries associated with his term in office.  Why in a political forum should facts and opinions not be expressed?  If those facts are interpreted as ''accusations'', so be it.  They remain facts.

I always value Lantana''s post. They are factual and honest and to the point, without sarcasm or nastiness. For those of us who don''t live in Kalkan she keeps us up to date with what''s happening, be it good or bad.

If Enjoy Kalkan is to become like a polite dinner party (no politics or religion to be discussed) then as others have said it shouldn''t have a section inviting discussion.

Totally agree with you Kalkan regular. This is, without doubt, the most moderated forum I''ve ever used.

The new mayor and party members have been to Kas this morning and they will be starting tomorrow. There is to be a ceremony tomorrow at 2pm after which they will be going to the council building.

Although this thread is nothing to do with me as I''m not (yet) a resident, I have to say I''m 100% with Lantana, she''s about the only person on this forum that actually knows what they are talking about & always gives good advice & info.

I too think that Lantana has given us some very useful reports on the current situation, but the now infamous post, which appears to have disappeared for technical reasons, was in my view beyond simple political reporting, as well as contrary to her sensible advice on freedom of speech in Turkey, trawled up by Em1, and to the principles fo this forum.

I hope that all local officials would to some degree take into account the views of visitors and of foreign residents, but I would also hope that those views would be put across more diplomatically, and without what is patently ridiculous comparison to somewhat larger and more serious political difficulties in South East Africa.

Maybe Jon could tell us whether any Belediye officials are registered as EK users, in order that we might realise the importance of sticking to the member mutual respect policy?

Are you aware of technical reasons as to why Lantanas post has gone?
Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else.

The ceremony will be near the old kamil koc office at 2pm, they will then walk down to the Ataturk statue then back up to the council offices.

Heres one for you and I quote you.
"Here''''s a suggestion, why don''''t we leave it up to the local Turkish Kalkan people, after all it is their town and not ours, I know I get annoyed when "foreigners" try to change my country or town where I live so I certainly wouldn''''t do it in another country!

Woow, what''s with the attack on me??

As I said nothing to do with me, I was simply saying I felt Lantana was very helpful & I hope she doesn''t get pushed off the forum.

What''s with the dragging up of people''s old posts??

Again the thread has all got a bit too serious & too personal.

But this is politics, and in a political debate you surely have to, and have the right to defend what you say. It is not an attack on you personally, I am not that kind of person. But you said it. In all politics people drag up the past, sometimes we don''t want to hear it other times we can say, I told you so. That''s life.

I did not wish to suggest that I had any problem with that message being removed for any reason, whether by EK management or by the author.  A valuable and interesting debate was in danger of being dragged to the level of political mudslinging.

In the words of Rodney King, "why can''t we all just get along?".  We clearly all want the best for Kalkan.

Maybe you could define the line - I am truly mystified as to where it is, Jon.

Well surely lantana crossed the line, once with her derogatory remarks towards me on the post ''trawled'' up by em1,

http://www.enjoykalkan.com/forum/index.php/topic,2914.msg25147.html#msg25147

which you promptly locked leaving me with no opportunity to reply,  and secondly with her tirade against the mayor on this thread.

I''m with sally, where exactly is this line?
never buy a house anywhere without an independent surveyors report

Hi All

Do any of you remember those words:-   Enjoy Kalkan

Is it possible to bring back the Owners Lounge on the Forum because a few of the recent posts (in my humble opinion) are only of interest to owners and ex-pats?

Please stick all this political discussion where it should be on an owner’s forum, which is only available to those that register as owners.

The average English, Kalkan summer visitor, going by voting figures in local election in England isn’t interested in his own local politics, let alone Kalkan’s.

Regards:  Buster.
