even reading those that had contributed already I kept changing my mind but if I have lock something in..... here goes.
1. Tom Dooley - Lonnie Donegan - very first record we ever bought  45 rpm and cost 6 shilllings and 8 pence.  How old is that.
2. Heard it on the Grapevine - Marvin Gaye.
3. Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd
4. Imagine - John Lennon.
5. A Day in the Life - Jeff Beck
6. Voodoo Chile (slight return) - Jimi Hendrix.
7. Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin.
8. Please Read the Letter - Robert Plant/Alison Krauss.

Book:  The Stand - Stephen King.
Film:   Field of Dreams.

Luxury; endless supply of liquorice.

That took some doing I can tell you.  It''ll probably change before tomorrows out! lol      Bill

Bill, you''ve made me want to change my original choice (again :D) to include some of yours - specially the Pink Floyd, Hendrix & Lennon.

My list;

1. Beach Boys - Surf''''s Up
2. Jeff Beck - ''''Cause We''''ve Ended As Lovers
3. Chaka Khan & Rufus - Ain''''t Nobody
4. James Brown - I Got You (I Feel Good)
5. Steely Dan - My Old School
6. Colosseum - Lost Angeles (live version)
7. Dixie Chicks - Lubbock or Leave It
8. Tom Petty - Into the Great Wide Open

Book -The Innocent Man (Grisham)

Film - Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Shame you won''t have your amp and pedal board Martyn! Paul, the axeman in my band has a Gibson Firebird and a Buddy Guy Strat., vintage fender amps and an effects pedal that mimics a Leslie organ. Sounds brill on ''Born to be Wild''. He shows all of his gear on the website for those of a similar bent.

Aaargh!!!

Joan, you started this thread whilst we were in Kalkan, I only saw it resurface yesterday.

Looks fun, but by heck this is going to be tricky.

ps AllanChris - Another Man fan huh? That makes two of us that I know of. They were superb....

Just to keep things on topic,
I shall look forward to seeing  Bob and Allanchris''s Kalkan Desert Island discs. It is not easy, but I''m sure it will get your grey cells working overtime.
Still waiting for your choices too Jon

Joan, this is nigh on impossible!!!  Plus it`s really doing my head in. I`ve been noting stuff down as it hits me, then later I find that my mood has shifted and before I know it I''m out of paper.

And I bet Martyn`s thinking... C''mon!

Film - The Big Blue (Luc Besson)

Book - I''m with itstime - Lord of the rings.

Luxury item - my `phone. Don`t need a SIM card, just the micro SD card loaded with music.

The top eight? Haven`t got to the tracks yet, but artist-wise I think I will have to go for....

Stevie Ray Vaughan

Focus

XTC

Pink Floyd

Everybody who ever played at Clapton`s Crossroads festivals... (ok, maybe that`s cheating a bit)

Led Zeppelin

Man

Robert Palmer

But there is just sooooooo much out there.

Has anyone ever heard of  (or seen) The Rainbow Remiped Dance Band?

This thread should carry a health warning. Herewith the track list, in no particular order.

Stevie Ray Vaughan : Riviera Paradise - from Live from Austin Texas DVD, released in 1995.

Focus : Anonymus Two - from FOCUS III, 1972

XTC : Senses working overtime - from English Settlement, 1982

Pink Floyd : Comfortably Numb - any of the live versions

Led Zeppelin : Kashmir - from Physical Graffiti, 1975

Man : Jam up jelly tight Oh no not again (Spunk Rock `73)  8) - from Back into the Future, 1973

Robert Palmer : Simply can`t choose, but the album Pressure Drop, 1975 (backing band Little Feat) is tops for me.

Trying to pick a single track from the Crossroads festivals proved to be a task too onerous, so I went shopping. In the middle of the supermarket, a song slipped into my head.

I can`t seem to face up to the facts
I`m tense and nervous and I can`t relax....

Talking Heads : Psycho Killer - from The Name of this Band is Talking Heads, released 1982

Cheers!

In view of all our new members, and to reflect that our tastes change and we remember/hear music that we wished we had put in our first selection, I thought I would do the Resurrection Shuffle on this thread so:-
You imagine you are castaway on a desert island. You can choose 8 records, 1 luxury item & 1 book to take with you. You already have the Bible and the Full works of Shakespeare with you.
To reflect the changes in modern technology you can take your i-pod, MP3/4 player. You have a choice of 8 favourite tracks, a book, a favourite film/movie and a luxury item.
So what would you pick and why?

Blimey - how tricky is this?!  :o

My choices are;

8 Favourite Tracks
Roadrunner - The Modern Lovers
Jolene - Dolly Parton
Sunset - Kate Bush
Suzanne - Nina Simone
Virginia Plain - Roxy Music
Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits (reminds me of my Dad)
Bonnie and Clyde - Serge Gainsbourg + Brigitte Bardot
The Boy With the Arab Strap - Belle and Sebastian

Book
Me Talk Pretty One Day - David Sedaris

Film
Play it Again Sam (Woody Allen)

Luxury Item
Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream

Oh, and I'm trading my Bible and Shakespeare in for the following;
One more song: Oh What a World - Rufus Wainwright
One more luxury item: A 2.5 carat Tiffany diamond ring (Bezet round)

Ahhh... I'm good to go...  ;)

Wow, it's been very hard to nail down my favs but (for today at least) here they are:

1. Stairway To Heaven - Led Zep (brilliant!)
2. Life On Mars - Bowie (great song, plus it now conjures up the fab TV series)
3. You Only Live Twice - (you have to have Bond theme in)
4. Summer The First Time - Bobby Goldsborough (now there's a story!)
5. Sweet Child Of Mine - Guns n Roses (you have to sing along)
6. Jupiter from the Planet Suite - Holst (lovely bit of classical)
7. Poison - Alice Cooper (again, you have to sing along)
8. Thriller - Michael Jackson (at his finest)

Book: Wild Swans (what a read)
Film: Oliver! (singing and dancing to a Dickens story, perfect)
Luxury: chilled, vintage champagne (no need to explain!)

I'd better post this now, before I change my mind again.

This is complete torture! I'm with Allan, when he suggested having several categories, coz I've had to leave out my fave classical track (Barbers Adagio) and my fave "dancey one (Dance to the Music, Sly&Family Stone)  :o
So here goes:- (in no particular order)

'Cause we've ended as lovers- Jeff Beck
Blues for Salvador- Santana
Fighting Talk- Colosseum
Nantucket Sleighride- Mountain
Shine on you Crazy Diamond- Pink Floyd
Flying in a Blue Dream- Joe Satriani
Still got the Blues for You- Gary Moore
Tell me no Lies- Camel

God that was hard, I've left MILLIONS out!!
Film- Field of Dreams
Book-S.A.S. Survival guide  (is that allowed?? ;D)
Luxury-Hammock with mosquito netting
