Martyn - James Brown was fantastic, all that energy. I always have to get up and dance to his tracks.

Truly, the Godfather of Soul and the High Priest of Funk. Get on the good foot.

Amen, brothers O0

Oooh this has taken me some time!!

Favourite songs;

Into my arms - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

Heart shaped box - Nirvana (and that was very difficult to narrow down!)

Wish you were here - Pink Floyd (a very special song for MrB and me)

Christine - Siouxsie & the Banshees

Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps - Doris Day

Flowers in our hair - All About Eve

Liberty song - The Levellers

Say hello, wave goodbye - Soft Cell

(and thats just the tip of the iceberg...i could go on, and on, and on!!!)

Favourite book;

Pies and Predjudice by Stuart Maconie (although any book by him or Mark Radcliffe will have me laughing like a drain, so i will need to be on a desert island!)

Favourite film;

Muriels Wedding...for my Abba fix! ("You''re tirrible, Muriel!")

Luxury item;

If i''m not allowed to take MrB then it will have to be my iPod and access to stuff to download, especially the Archers podcast!

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Good selection Mrs B
By the way, Doris Day was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and her real name was a bit of a mouthful
Doris von Kappelhoff!!!

I''ve always been a fan of Doris Day.
My mum tells me that when i was a little girl i used to tell people she was my auntie, as we had the same family surname (not von Kappelhoff!), and that i would always want to watch her films and listen to her songs.
I remember a happy childhood when i listen to them.  :)

And on the same subject i also like listening to Dolly Parton. ;D
I can go from Nirvana to Dolly to The Clash to Doris to Metallica all in one afternoon of musical delights!  >:D

I used to love Doris Day, but when my daughter was very young she was obsessed with Calamity Jane. I know every inch of dialogue and every line of every song from the film...really put me off Doris, I''m afraid. Not her fault, entirely mine obviously but I may have sat through the film 100 times and you can only take so much.
The Black Hills of Dakota is my nemesis  >:D

"Everyone appreciates a woman''s touch"?  Are we now seeing this movie in a slightly different light?

Seem to remember one of those "50 or 100 best" list programmes on Channel 4 suggesting that all was not as innocent as expected when Doris goes all frilly and moves in with the other lady.  They also cast doubt on the real sentiments of "Once I had a secret love" but what a voice Doris Day had.  We had a discussion t''other day about whether she was still alive.  Her and Matt Monro are just about the best voices I ever heard.

OK, easier ones first:

Book: PG Wodehouse compendium (is that cheating?)
Movie: Some Like It Hot
Luxury Item: large screen TV with built-in fridge and fan.

Now the tough bit:
Better Be Home Soon - Crowded House
Wink and a Smile - Harry Connick Jr from Sleepless in Seattle
Let there be Love - Nat King Cole
Somewhere over the Rainbow - Eva Cassidy or Barbra Streisand
Love''s in need of love today - Stevie Wonder
Hotel California - The Eagles (the Spanish version from Hell freezes Over)
Have you ever loved a woman - Eric Clapton (from Tekin''s Crossroads Blues Festival DVD at Cinar Bar)
New York State of Mind - Billy Joel or Oleta Adams

Too many great songs to decide from, but this lot on random would do me for ages!

OK Joan, as you asked so nicely (and at the second attempt but wrote it on MS Word this time and copied!

1. Thank You – Led Zeppelin – for my first love
2. I Drove all Night – Cyndi Lauper – a great driving song and marginally better than Roy Orbison’s original
3. Jackie – Scott Walker – reminds me of the sixties and was a bit ‘naughty’ at the time (the song not me)!
4. Birthday Song – Don Maclean – some trivia, did you know he is the subject of Roberta Flack’s ‘Killing me Softly’?
5. When You Were Young- The Killers- I love the whole Sam’s Town album
6. I’m Gonna be Strong – Gene Pitney – What a voice! The Cyndi Lauper version is also good but Gene just pips it
7. Feels Like Teen Spirit – Nirvana – love dancing to this
8. Cennet – Ferhat Gocer – for my husband

Film – this was a hard choice but probably Cat on a Hot Tin Roof – very steamy

Book – Gone with the Wind – Margaret Mitchell. Yes I know it’s all romantic tosh but ‘frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn’

Luxury item – my husband

I am convinced that it was watching Paul Newman in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" that set me off into labour when I was expecting my son!!!!
I adored the Walker Brothers and several years after they split up, went to watch Scott Walker at a local cabaret club (just slightly more upmarket than the local Working mens club) he turned up very late, appeared to be under the influence of something, and was obviously going for the grungy Hippie look. However, as soon as he started singing, all was forgiven, great voice.
If you liked his sound, check out a group called "Cousteau" - Last Good Day of the Year, the Lead singer has a definite sound of him.
