Ditching the Crocs, but what to wear at the beach?
« on: September 03, 2014, 07:46:09 PM »
Ok, I'm dumping my Crocs...so comfy and practical but so ugly.  I need your advice on what to get in Kalkan so I can try and walk on the beach and get into the sea without looking like a complete and utter numptie over the sharp pebbles.  The pebbles that the locals seem not to notice and walk on as if smooth, golden sand.  So, what do I get, and where?  Many thanks in advance!

Wear the pretty flip flops to the beach then put the crocs on to go in the water! The one time I went into the water with no shoes on my exit was much more ugly than if I was wearing crocs. On hands and knees, bum in the air...I think you probably have the picture.

I wear my normal flip flops to the beach and then wear those water/dive shoes for the sea.....as Kalkan regular says although they are not the most glamorous things the sight of me getting out without them is just hideous!  ;D

Sorry PW but they don't work very well. I have tried rubber flip flops to go into the water and have ended up with floating flip flops or struggling to keep them on as I tried to get out of the water. Perhaps a more skilled person than me can manage to keep them on when getting into the water, swimming and then getting out.

Crocs come in sandal form too. I posted a link on Lizilu's holiday report....I think :-\
I have a flip flop pair and a sandal pair which do stay on in the water- they are slip on sandal type things but with the all important croc sole which protects our sensitive British feet against the beach stones. I recommend them, so much so that when I looked online to post a link I spied a leopard print pair which I just had to have. Ordered them there and then, even though I won't be back in Kalkan until next June :-[ From beach to sea to bar
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Thanks for the replies. I can't wear flip flops sadly - hurt between my ties as soon as they're on. So annoying. But...sandal crocs...will investigate further!

Hot tunas!!! See attachment - only for getting in and out of the sea though. I wouldn't be seen dead in them at any other time. They are absolutely fantastic on those pebbles and don't slip off in the sea.
Bought ours from sports direct.

Lol me too, also bought at sportsdirect and paid the princely sum of £6 for them. Used them for the last 3 years and still going strong

Hey don't diss the tuna's ha ha  ;D they are fab aren't they itstime? They were brilliant for saklikent too and the mudbaths. No shale between my tootsies and I was out of that sea like a whippet while watching everyone else struggling and sliding back down the steep shoreline!
An added bonus to your hot tuna's - they can also be substituted for evening wear as a friend of ours found while holidaying in Greece recently. He didn't read the evening dress code 're no sandals and shorts prior to hols so he was in a bit of a pickle when he was barred from the dining room on his first night. Luckily his resourceful wife had a brainwave - his hot tuna's!!! They indeed came to the rescue and every night he paraded round the buffet table in his lifesaving hot tuna's  ;D
