Meze
« on: June 23, 2012, 01:51:19 PM »
What's your favourite meze and why?
And who doesn't like mezes because of the 'morning after' effect they have?
Especially the red sloppy stuff - what exactly is in it?

The red sloppy stuff is Esme (chopped tomatoes, chilli, onions, garlic, herbs & oils).

Can't pick favourites easily but best places to eat them are Chillies & Fener for my cash.

I agree with Chillies. Give me warm stone-oven baked bread with butter and cheese any day. Problem is I can get full on that before I even start on the food I've paid for.

Like Skunk i also love the cheese borek. Also Zeynap on Yildiz2 does a lovely mezze dish of cauliflower in yoghurt plus what other ingredients goes in it and it's delicious.

Ooooh Nicky I so agree about the cauliflower on Yildiz - I tried to emulate it at home but it just wasn't anything like it. Think I'll try and get the recipe from them this time! Yum Yum!

Have to concur re: Mezze at Fener. One of the best. I also rate the Mezzes at Sofra and Palm Beach. We love the ezme, we fight over that - the potato salad is the least popular for us :)

Definately Chillies for me. Love that you can go into the back and choose by the spoonful from about 16 different dishes and its only about 1.5TL per spoonful-bargain!
