Electric Bills - make sure you pay...........or else!

Just a word of warning to all owners that the local electicity provider (TEDAS) appear to be taking a far more proactive approach to paying your bill. It would appear that if you are more than 50TL in arrears then you can expect to be cut off at the next meter reading. This isn't a threat - it's reality. Today we've witnessed 3 meters being cut off for non payment.

So with this, and the new stance re upaid water bills - the local utility providers are starting to get their act in gear.

Have to agree, we were late paying our power bill last month and were cut off without warning.  They put one of thoses "lead pressed" seals onto our meter box so could not get into it without breaking the seal.

To be fair, we paid the bill and were switched back on straight away 

So, pay your bills on time and have no problems, dont pay your bill on time......     No different from anywhere else in the world

Anyone with a local bank account can set up for direct debit to pay electricity and telephone.  And if your account is with Denizbank, they can also pay the water bill by direct debit.

It is not just that they will cut off the utility, you will also incur a heavy fine for late payment and if it's very late, as in the case of a friend who didn't come for 9 months, a case is opened in court.  If you don't fancy going to court, make sure your payments are timely !

Then your case had not yet been given over to the court.  Our friend had not paid for 9 months as he hadn't been here.  And that was for telephone and ADSL, not electricity which had been paid.  The late fees and interest appear on the subsequent bill anyway.

Heard of someone cut off this week for being 3 weeks late in paying !!!!

Sorry Cosetta, as I said 'we were not fined'   Told if we paid the bill, power would be put back on ( which it was ) and no further action taken. 

To be fair we have not yet received the next months bill so could be in for a fine, hope not
