ELECTRIC & WATER BILLS
« on: July 12, 2012, 09:43:52 PM »
Does anyone happen to have a translation of the column and row headings on both the electricity and water bills? I am trying to get an understanding of the meanings of each of the columns and rows that the figures refer to without much success (no one in the Tedas speaks any English!). If anyone has managed to translate the column/row headings of either or both of theses slips and can forward me a copy  it would be a great help to me. Cheers!

e.g .
aktif = n. assets, entries on a balance sheet showing tangible and intangible properties and claims against others that can be applied to cover the financial obligations of a business or of a person, complete property that a person owns (Accounting)
enduktif = adj. inductive, of or pertaining to electric or magnetic induction (Electricity); using reasoning by induction; serving to induce persuade; introductory
miktar = n. quantity, amount, proportion, deal, measure, number, portion, quantum, sum, supply, quanta
cevre = n. contour, surroundings, environment, premises, adjacencies, ambiance, ambience, purlieus, neighborhood, neighbourhood [Brit.], vicinity, circumference, perimeter, atmosphere, ambit, circle, climate, compass, domain, entourage, girth, milieu, monde adj. environmental, ecological, ambient

hope this helps

I am also working my way through several Turkish language CDs in an attempt to get to grips with the language.

On a related subject can anyone clarify the current water rates and the make up of the bills? There appears to be a number of elements to the bill. The cost of the water you use - based on a tiered system of useage, then an element for waste? Then another add on for environment, then tax. No person at the Belediyse can explain how they get to the figure - the only response was "the computer does the bills!". Any help to clarify would be appreciated.

Copied from a thread I started last year: just to give you an idea of how the charges are worked out.

Water is charged  at 3 different rates

0 - 25 units = 94Kurus per unit

over 25 and upto 50 units = 2.20tl per unit

over 50 units = 3.90tl

So the more you use the more expensive it gets!

Emma. Thanks for the response. In addition to these water charges there are another 3 add ons to get your final bill. They are:-

Waste Water - apparently 30% of the water you use (but at what rates?)
Environment - this is an add on to pay for bin emptying, etc ( not sure how this is calculated?)
KVA - 18% - (not sure what the 18% is applied to?)

By the time you add on all these your water bill is far more than just the basic water you use!

I have never met anyone who can clarify the above. If there is anyone who can it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

One of those extra charges is for rubbish collection but I don't know if this is percentage-based or a flat fee.  The waste water is probably a charge for sewage processing at the new sewage plant - this is a guess.  The 18% is applied to everything.

KVA is Turkey's VAT. It can be at 18%, 8% 0% or exempt.

cossetta/denners - thanks for your responses but my questions relate more to the calculations rather than the actual add on items. E.g.

Water Charge - when i apply the rates that emma quotes to my water useage I don't get the same figure to that element if my bill.

Waste Water - this is quoted as 30% - but i cannot get a figure to match 30% of anything?

Environment - yes, this is for bin emptying, but I cannot determine how they calculate the figure, % or flat fee??

KVA - yes this is our VAT equivalent and is 18% but again looking at my bill i cannot get this figure to represent 18% of anything shown on my bill.

As I say, I have asked many people  in Kalkan, even residents who stay all year, the Belediyse, but no one can clarify.

I guess everyone just accepts what the computer says on the bill print out??

Maybe its just me but I would like to understand the calculation. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Emma I did that today - let's see what happens as really it should not be too difficult for the Belediye to tell people

Hope that they haven't been getting it wrong for years  :(

I haven't had a water bill since last November. Deniz bank are not receiving info from the Belediye, and are charging me on the account because only one DD is being paid, instead of two.
Will have to wait until our next visit in September to sort it out.

Hey Kevincat - would be great if we can get a concise, understandable answer to the bill structure. It's quite an unpleasant feeling when your not sure if your being 'taken for a mug' or not! Eventually our bills did make sense and add up once we understood that we were paying the top (most expensive) tarrif.

Baclava - Our last two water bills, which are on DD from the bank, have not gone out when they should have... so we too will be doing the rounds in september .. trying to sort it out as well.... at least we will be walking round in the sunshine  ;D
