Wild weather
« on: October 10, 2011, 05:58:08 AM »
A wild and stormy night here in Kalkan last night (Sunday). The full works: torrential rain, streets flowing like rivers, the bay alight with lightning.

This morning, the sea is very rough indeed (have a look on KTLN at the webcam pointing at the town beach from the top of the Fish Terrace).

Two more days of this (Monday & Tuesday) forecast.......

Pretty much like West Yorkshire then, minus the lightning!!!
Hope it soon improves in Kalkan for you.
Nicky.

Like an English summers day it was.  All sorts washed down the hill from Yali to Doy Doy.

Not much sun at the moment though... OH, night time!

Here's a picture of yesterday's hail storm rolling in across Kalamar Bay. Pretty dramatic stuff with hail on the patio at least 1 cm. across.
I love a bit of wild weather!
Pity I can't post at a higher resolution.

Aw, wow, what a great picture!  How dramatic.  We've seen a couple of huge storms in Kalkan but never hail.

Bloomin typical, I persuaded a work colleague to try Kalkan for the first time. It's poured down since she went ::) ::) Feel so sorry that she won't see kalkan at anything like its best and no doubt never speak to me again :-[

Hi Itstime, our daughter's work colleagues are in Kalkan as well - their first visit to Kalkan and only for one week.  I hope they are having a good time regardless of the weather at the moment  ???

Well: another wild afternoon and evening of storms here on Tuesday. More torrential rain and a thunderstorm passing right overhead (you could feel the thunderclaps in the pit of your stomach), which took the electricity out for around an hour.
Sounded as though it rained all night, but now (Wednesday 7.30 am Kalkan time) it has stopped and everything is just dripping. On the plus side, the clouds produced a fabulous sunrise about 15 minutes ago.
I think that may be it now: back to wall-to-wall sunshine for the next few days?? :)

There has been quite a bit of damage though, mainly caused by the huge waves hitting the shore. Town beach is a bit of a mess (Belediye mounting clear-up operations). Indigo Beach Club has lost its watersports platform totally and virtually lost its wooden swimming platforms - Haci and the boys were busy trying to restore everything yesterday, so they can re-open. In my experience, it's most unusual to have storms of this severity so early in the autumn. But it's impressive how all the restaurants and other businesses just cope and keep going. If we had this sort of "weather event" in the UK, the whole fabric of society would grind to a halt for at least a week!

Great pic Ribaldeagle. My friend's Parents are in Kalkan right now, for the first time. Her poor Mum is apparently
not only rained off, but laid up with the "dreaded virus", I do know that they were having a great time previously so hope a little of the kalkan magic has rubbed off on them.  :(

What a great photo but what awful weather, judging by the webcam looks like the sun has come out at last. Hope it has, for all of you out there looking for a little autumn sunshine. We originally planned to book for the first two weeks of October for a change but am glad we went the first two weeks in September now and missed these somewhat unusually bad storms so early into autumn. Nevertheless whatever the weather I suppose you still have the pleasure of the wonderful welcoming Kalkan people and delicious food there, hope it picks up from today on and the remainder of your holiday will be warm and sunny and you'll have a fantastic time!!
