Wild card.......
« on: October 04, 2014, 07:23:52 PM »
So this time next week we will have just landed at Dalaman!
We have promised ourselves that we will try a couple of new restaurants (new to us anyway) this year. Our tried and trusted favourites are Korsan, Fish Terrace and Mousakka. I would like good recommendations that maybe take us a little from our usual routes.....possibly Samphire, Isos, Celik........maybe somewhere cheaper but authentic!
All suggestions welcome!

Cheap and authentic?  Give Oz Adana a try in the corner of the roundabout by taxi rank ;) (no alcohol in June...but you can soon catch up after din dins somewhere else)

Hunkar Ocakbasi must be the best authentic Turkish restaurant in Kalkan

Look for it across the road from the Kaya

Always good

Our Home up by the Kalkan First School is the most authentic restaurant in our eyes, amazing food and wonderful people.  It is packed at lunch times with all the local Turkish business people eating there.  Oz Adana is another one as Blue Lizard quite rightly says, albeit no alcohol but the food makes up for that.  They forgot our chips in the summer because they were so busy but then insisted on cooking more and they wouldn't charge us for them.  Odana Okabasi is another favourite one for us, traditional food and really lovely food and so cheap.

I'm not sure we could cope with eating with no alcohol!
Whereabouts is Odana Okabasi....I know I've asked this before, is it down the road by Kipa?
Hope you enjoy the Olive Garden Pompeyalbie.....it was one of those restaurants that we went to a few years ago and had a bad experience and so have never returned.......but I know it's very popular.

What about Ayse's Kitchen up at the bus station, fab home cooked turkish food, reasonable prices, spacious, & possibly the best views across Kalkan ;)

2 more for you - Kleo Pension roof terrace (round the corner from Alternatif/mosque) and Moonlight Pension terrace restaurant on Kalamar Road. Go there during the day for a drink - see what you think. As both places are tiny and family-run, you choose your menu beforehand - then they shop for ingredients and cook it freshly for you. The views from each are - in my opinion - some of the best in Kalkan.

Lots of good ideas there....thanks! Now if you lovely forum members have a tip for making me stop looking at the long range forecast I'd be really happy......currently accuweather showing at 1 dry day out of 10  ???.......I don't mind, and expect, the odd shower, but every day??

Chillies for good cheap traditional and Gourmet for fabulous food and service. When Oz Adana was up the road by D400 you could take your own alcohol. We didnt get round to going there this year but will definitely next year....can you still take your own alcohol to their new location?
Babs the weather forecasts arent always accurate - keep looking until you find one you like :)

I had.....accuweather was great this morning.....should have stopped then.....miserable now! I think the best way to tell what the weather is going to do is to ask the boat owners.....I just have to stop being so paranoid!?  ::)

Weather is lovely, just been swimming at 6pm.

Restaurants we loved this week were Kalamaki, Gourmet and Köşk.
All had good service and good food.

Olive Garden and Paprika were good but not perfect.

Korsan Fish Terrace wasn't the best but perhaps they had a bad night due to live music?

I,like you, keep checking the forecast Babs ( we arrive on 17th). What I can't understand is how much the forecast can change in one day! This morning it was wall to wall sunshine and tonight it says rain, rain, rain. At least I know from previous experience in October, it's warm rain.

I'm just hoping that they don't really know! As K4E says, maybe we should just choose one we like and stick with it!
