Schweppes Tonic
« on: April 05, 2010, 08:06:54 AM »
Whilst staying in Kalkan last year I searched high and low for Schweppes Tonic. Does anyone know where in Kalkan it might be available? Surely I can't be the only one who enjoys a G&T?. We are only staying for a week so won't have time to look outside of Kalkan. Can anyone please suggest a solution.
Thanks

There was a short period last year when Schweppes tonic was not available in any shop in the region, dedicated G&T drinkers searched from Izmir to Antalya without success.

However, supplies have been back to normal for at least six months and you will find Schweppes tonic in all the local supermarkets.

The shortage of Schweppes tonic seems to be becoming a regular thing in the busy season for obvious reasons, so if you see it, get it.

On the subject of tonic (speaking as a dedicated G&T fan)
Have you tried Fever Tree tonic?  In my opinion it blows Schweppes etc right out of the water!  8)
Some supermarkets stock it in the UK and branches of Oddbins. Upmarket hotels usually have it in preference to Sch... you know who.    ;)

For all G&T lovers only full-fat tonic available in Turkey - don't ask me why  ??? . Lite this and Lite that but only full-on sugar version available to buy. It's too sweet for me, I switch to soda when I'm in Kalkan - bit eeeoooggghh at first, but then it tastes great....like all alcohol  :o  !

We found that it was Fridays when the tonic ran out - changeover day - so this year I spotted several bottles in Tesko and they're now in the cupboard awaiting my return with more Gin!

Lol - we were in Kalkan in October last year and just assumed it wasnt available, I just told DH that there was a shortage and hopefully it will be in the shops again when we go in June.  Even better if we can get 2 bottle of Bombay Sapphire for £20 at the airport!

Elcee, it's been two bottles (1L) of Bombay for £20 for the last...oooh 5 years at least at Manchester, providing you are travelling outside EU. Keep expecting it to go up, but seeing how it's £23 for one in Tesco, it is an absolute baragin. Last June our daughters were with us, so we got 4 bottles and brought two back - such a great buy!
