Deli
« on: October 14, 2009, 09:08:51 AM »
Hi - the first thing I want to do when I arrive on holiday is stock up on great food (cheese, meat, olives, nibbles, breacd, etc) at a great delicatessen. That'll cover lunches and snacks. Is there a recommended supermarket, or even a specialist deli that sells this kind of local food treat?
Thanks - Baggers

Thanks - we arrive on a Saturday, so can't wait 'til Thursday. Is there a particular supermarket that has a great local counter - I don't want to shop in the Turkish equivalent of a Tesco Metro Express!
Cheers - Baggers

In the grey bar at the top of the page you will find the word SEARCH..click onto this and enter supermarkets in the search for box...you will find some previous threads about supermarkets ;)

Hi - we are just back a week and like you got all our supplies in - the supermarkets will cater for all your needs - I found some were better for one thing while others were better for others (does that make sense!)
The butchers are great and so are the grocers - you will find that you need to shop separately for these things - but that was also the fun.
The market on Thurs is a must - bon Appetite

We found the supermarkets had a wide range of "deli" produce - usually at the back of the shop and so clean, tidy and well stocked. The market is fun too, we bought a supply of fruit and was so much cheaper than the shops.

If you can't wait until the Thursday market in Kalkan you could always try the market up at Akbal. It's only 5 mins away from the town, and sells the essential food items including olives, cheese, vegetables, fruite etc. and very reasonable prices. You can get a bus up there or a short taxi ride which won't cost much. Stop for a chicken lunch at the local restaurant, it does wonderful rotisserie chicken :)
