Have been holidaying Kalkan for 12 years and have followed Mehmet from each restaurant. His nickname is çiçek which means flower.

He part owns Tomato and is the little guy with long hair.  He''s always been a great host in every restaurant he''s been involved in.  He''s the type of guy who''s happy for your to have a beer and a chat or a full meal - he knows the food is good so you''ll probably come back at some stage.  It''s also the type of place you can go on your own and not feel threatened in any way.

The best food is the authentic turkish - and I would recommend Tomato for both a snack during the day or your main meal in the evening.  His prices are reasonable, portions good and you get a large measure if you''re drinking spirits.  Highly recommend.

Can''t say that being served by an "English lady" would attract me to a restaurant in Kalkan, it would actually put me off even if the food was good, I can stay at home if I want to be served by English people!

I can stay at home and be served by Turkish people, which would be preferable to many of the gormless spotty herberts "working" in British pubs and restaurants. In Kalkan, I really would not be attracted to or put off from a particular establishment or fussed at all about who was looking after me, as long as the food, the general service and the atmosphere was good, which it almost always is, in my experience.

If I was in Italy then yes I would prefer to be served by an Italian waiter, much better to experience the culture through the locals.

I''m not really fussed who serves me in this country, I was referring to what I like in Kalkan & my opinion on English people serving, I would rather be served by a Turkish person as they actually know what ingredients go in to the food (if you need to know) and what the best dishes are, I would rather a Turkish persons opinion about their local food than an English person.

Just a suggestion lougie, why dont you try tomato, and ask the "English" lady if she has any Idea which
ingredients go into the local food and you never know, she might know a great deal about the food and
the culture of Turkey,go on give it a try,I will in three weeks.

I actually know the guy who runs it, the little one (sorry no other way to describe him) and we always say each year that we will try it but never do, I will give it a miss asking the English lady about Turkish culture and food, thanks for the advise though!

The  woman is Kathleen and she has been involved for nearly 2 years now the small Turkish man is Mehmet or Çiçek who has been involved for many years. There is another Turkish person involved called Mustafa. Kathleen is rarely around during the height of season, and the chef is new this year. The food is always good along with the service and it reasonable priced. The Tomato used to be open all year but is now open only for the season it also did sulu food which i found better but that is about choice. You will find Çiçek very helpful as he has been ın Kalkan about 14 years or so. If you read newbestfriend they say the same thing it is a good place for people in Kalkan first time to go.

Just got back from a month in Kalkan, bliss.  I ate at Tomato quite a few times as I was on a budget.

Only Cicek and Mustafa are around at the moment, Kathleen was not there all month.  The new chef is excellent, the menu is extensive but I do prefer the original turkish good.

Cicek is a good business man, he''s freindly and always makes you welcoome.  I highly recommend.
