Make up Your Dream Band
« on: September 14, 2009, 02:28:52 PM »
We've had the "Heavenly or Hellish Bands" using deceased musicians, so how about making your dream band from the ranks of the living?
Here's my choice (not easy, so many I want to include!)
Tell you what, we can have a "reserve" for each!

Vocals- Paul Rodgers. Reserve Robert Plant.

Bass- Tal Wilkinfeld.    Reserve, Stanley Clarke

Guitars- Gary Moore and Jeff Beck. Reserves, Carlos Santana and David Gilmour. **

Drums- Nick Mason. Reserve, Brian Downey.

Keyboards- Max Middleton. Reserve, Keith Emerson.

**  I deliberately left out Eric Clapton and Peter Green, as I think they've both suffered performance wise, since the drug-fest days, they seem to have lost "the blues" (only my opinion of course!)

Anyways, take it away........

I agree, Eric Clapton is a god, but in his time he has also been a sinner. Probably been driven to sin by the record companies demand's for "something a bit more commercial".  :(

Cathy, this is soooo difficult!  :-\  ,but what do you think of this line up?

Vocals- Paul Rodgers,   reserve Joe Cocker.

Guitars- Gary Moore and  Dave Edmunds,   reserves  Buddy Whittington and Walter Trout,

Bass-  Jack Bruce,   reserve  Pino Palladino

Keys-  Jools Holland, (piano)  reserve Chris Stainton.  Gregg Rolie, (organ)  reserve Booker T. Jones.

Drums-  Me!  Not Allowed? Oh! O.k. then.    Drums-  Kenny Aronoff,  reserve Ginger Baker.

Wailers-  Ruby Turner, Sam Brown, Tina Turner, Beverly Knight.

However, I must mention the guys in 'my' band.   Paul on guitar, Terry, bass and Drew, lead vocals, who are all excellent musicians and great guys.     My real life 'dream' band!  ;D

Still sinning then!    Listen to the albums Layla and (Cream) Live at The Fillmore. God is playing on those!

Not as old as those by Beethoven, Mahler, Schubert, Bach, Vaughan Williams, Bruch or Mozart etc.! Now they really ARE old! But are they good?  ;)

What an absoluteLy classic reposte! Well done. Great laugh.
Clapton, like all of us, has been a sinner at some time, and yes, I agree with your comment about being pushed by the record companies, but also take into consideration the loss of his son and give the man credit he's bounced back. I really can't think of any better axe men, perhaps a few on a par, but certainly not better. Long live Slowhand.

Slowhand is clearly not your cup of tea but to say clapped out is really quite insulting. Who's your favourite? Stuart Wood?

So you went to see him knowing you didn't like any of his music. Why?   I certainly wouldn't take the trouble to go and see live, someone whose work I hadn't previously appreciated on a recorded format. I hear lots of recordings by bands and individuals who I have no wish to see live. To say he was boring, well perhaps to you he was, not your cup of meat obviously, but to say he was boring and clapped out without knowing anything about his music etc. seems, and I shall be generous here,  misty fying.

In the early 60's I remember walking past The Red Lion Pub in Sutton Surrey and outside was a poster for a Stones gig there that Saturday.  My very first band played their first gig at The Woodstock pub near Sutton and The Stones played there just over a year previously.        I knelt down and kissed the stage!
