« on: September 02, 2009, 04:36:55 PM »
I will be staying at the Kalamar Meltem Apartments, Yildiz Sokak, Kalamar Bay, does anyone know how close these are / easy to get to Kalkan centre, and how close it is to the nearest supermarket, ATM, bar, restaurants etc
Many Thanks

Hi

If you look at the google earth map of Kalkan, the map view not the satellite view, you can find Yildiz Sokak in Kalamar Bay.  I would say it is a struggle to walk to Kalkan from there, particularly if it is hot.  My guess is you will be getting a taxi home from Kalkan.  I am not sure about supermarkets etc, I believe there is one, there may be limited restaurants, most are in Kalkan.  There is the Beach club there which is good and it does have a restaurant for lunches.

Got back from our first visit to Turkey last week.

We stayed in a fantastic villa in Kalamar Bay.  I think I know the street you mention and we were staying slightly down the hill from there.

The walk into town is pretty exhausting - we didn't even attempt it during the day, but at night it was doable.

The worst bit is the hill where your street comes out onto - it's a killer!

That said, we could do the walk into town in 30 minutes.  It kind of gave us an appetite and we felt we earned our dinner.

There's two restaurants relatively close by though.  If you try "Ali's" make sure you try his lamb chops - they're utterly superb.  The best I've ever eaten!

There's a small Tesko next to one of the restaurants (and another a little further along the road that will deliver for free).

We walked into town for dinner then did our supermarket shopping afterwords - there's literally 100s of taxis and you'll be asked if you want one as soon as you walk out of the market - so don't be afraid to stock up on a big shop.  11 TLs was the going rate for us.

Taxi drivers will give you a card with personal mobile phone numbers so you can call them out to your apartment if you like.

When we walked in - we were offered lifts from complete strangers on more than one occasion (local Turks and Brits alike).  Obviously be sensible with this but we took advantage of offers a couple of times.

Take water if you walk into town is last bit of advice I'd give.

Have fun - we loved it!
