Open at XMas?
« on: August 07, 2009, 07:26:31 PM »
Hi,

We are taking the plunge and going to spend christmas in Kalkan - can anyone let me know which restaurants are open and do we have to book?

Thanks
Jon

Hi Jon
You and Jules will have a super time in Kalkan at Xmas.

We did book our table in Kaya for Xmas day, only because we worried that we might not get a table.  It was certainly very popular, but don't know if they actually turned anyone away.

We also had a fabulous dinner in the place next door to where Istanbul used to be.  It begins with I and is a short word, Iso or something like that.  Anyway we were downstairs where there was a roaring fire and we were made so welcome.

I've heard lots of people say about Aubergine too, although we only went there at about 11.30am on Xmas day for a hot chocolate and a brandy  ;D  We'd been shopping in the market and were enjoying the sunshine before lunch.   :D

Wherever you go, it will be wonderful

If last christmas / new year is anything to go by, then the restaurants we found open were

Kaya
BBQ
Trio
Aubergine
Iso
Sofra

In the day Oz Adana was open as well

We had a great time in all of them
Carpe diem

It's possible I guess, but freezing at night.  We were very glad of a little heater that we bought earlier in the season.  We also had the heater/air con on all night in the bedroom.  The daytime was lovely, but we also had a fair bit of rain.

I was there from 29 December to 4 Jan - it rained all day on the day I arrived and most of the time on the day I left.  Otherwise it was beautiful blue skies and warm sunshine in the daytime but chilly at night.  You might get  a bit of a tan sitting directly in the sun in a sheltered spot but if not it's got to be tons better than being in the UK at that time of year whatever the weather!
