Tomato Restaurant
« on: July 02, 2009, 10:55:56 PM »
I have been to Kalkan 3 times since last October and I have eaten at Tomato Restaurant (next to the Post Office) more times than any other restaurant in Kalkan. It serves good simple Turkish food at very reasonable prices.  Drinks are also reasonably priced (3.50 lira for a beer).  It''''s a great place to just sit and have a drink and watch the world go by and has a casual cafe feel by day but is a lovely informal restaurant at night.  Cicek, who usually runs it, is in the army but I believe he will be there in August.  Ali, who is running it this year, is a lovely guy and really friendly and helpful. They also do take-aways and deliveries - great for families or those who fancy a night in and dont feel like cooking.  Pick up a menu at the restaurant.  I highly recommend it

It's been a long time when I went to Tomato Restaurant. They have a good turkish menus and drinks there. I have no problem with the price because it is cheaper than the other restaurants.

How does Tomato compare with Ali Baba's these days. We stopped going to Tomato years ago on the basis it was a bit dearer and not quite as good as Ali Baba's, should we give it another try.

Eventually after many times visiting  Kalkan we stopped off at Tomato for lunch. I`ve always judges it as Ali Baba`s two up, cheap and simple Turkish Food. The mezzie`s were infact wonderful. They seem to have employed a chef with a flair for presentation. We stopped again on our last night and my wife and i had Albanian Liver. This wasn`t to my personal tastes ( bit to rustic) as it`s my favourite meal at Ali Babas  (back from the first rounabout), but my wife enjoyed it.
Great spot to watch people coming into town, drink is very reasonable and great views of the islands. Will definately be back in October
