Best Value Supermarket
« on: May 09, 2009, 07:49:38 AM »
We normally shop in Yali to "stock up" when we first arrive in Kalkan. I understand there is a "Migros" supermarket in Kas.

Does anyone use this and is it worth the trip for a "Big Shop" or can you suggest others?

We went to Migros and whilst the choice was wider we didnt really find it any cheaper. What we did find however is the price of some items in Kalkan does vary between Migros / Sevil / Tesko / Adda so it can be worth shopping around  :)

As well as Migros in Kas there is also Genpa, Bim, A101 and Muhtar. Both Muhtar and Genpa have been extended within the last month and both are much larger than Migros. I find Kas much cheaper than Kalkan, 1 example yesterday was a small carton of Sek cream 1.45tl in A101 and 2.50tl in Tesko.

Many thanks for your replies John & Mel.
Very good advice Mel, where can I find the Supermarkets in Kas? Whenever I''ve stayed there it''s normally been in a hotel so no need for food/drink shopping although I could tell you where to buy cheap watches/bags.

not sure where the others are but the Migros is on the right just as you approach that first roundabout in Kas; you''ll be lucky to park outside so park up before you get to the shops on the right if I were you.  Bill

There''s also a large Migros and Carrefor in Fethiye. We rely on the local supermarkets in Kalkan for a few days, then do a "big shop" in one those when we go to Fethiye. We''ve always found things are cheaper in the big supermarkets and in Fethiye generally.
We try to make sure we support the local Kalkan businesses, but at the same time we aren''t going to pay way over the odds for things we can buy cheaper elsewhere.
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)
