Pool Towels
« on: February 03, 2009, 06:42:25 PM »
At the risk of starting up another towel debate..(I am getting professional help for my addiction btw) I wondered what happens to all the pool towels we leave behind?

I always like it when the accomodation includes pool towels (owners take note if you are trying to rent your property  ;D ), but usually we either bring some with us, or buy some within days of arriving and almost always we leave them because we''re worried about the weight in the case.

What does everyone else do?

Why do some owners offer them, and not others?

If someone leaves nice towels behind, why don''t the owners ask their management companies to launder them with the rest of the bedding, tea towels etc. and leave them for other guests?

Just a thought for a snowy cold Tuesday.. ;)

We provide pool towels for the very reason you state - added extra weight in the suitcase!  Added to which - it is just that extra bit of feeling being well looked after..!!!

I''m sure that eventually most villa owners will ''cotton on'' (excuse the pun..LOL!!) and provide that extra touch!  ;) ;)

Cheers!

It''s simple as far as we are concerned - doing the laundry twice a week only works long term if everything is white and can be boil-washed. Obviously this doesn''t apply to pool towels as they tend to be brightly coloured and really b*gger up the washing.... especially as people tend to get all kinds of horrible stuff over them - sun oil etc.

Plus - they tend to get nicked!

Hi
When I use to rent I provided 2 large multi-coloured pool towels per guest, and 2 white house towels per guest. I found the house towels were constantly being used as pool/beach/boat/floor towels and had to be replaced. Hence, I dont rent now.

It''s amazing what people do with stuff when it''s not their own, isn''t it?  Although we factor in the cost of replacing towels & linen regularly, so it''s not a shock to us!

why not deduct the cost of nicked towels etc from the deposit? isn''t that what it''s for? we have rented for many years and wouldn''t dream of being so petty as to nick towels!! or use them for any other use other than what they were intended for...saying that it''s great not to have to lug towels around in your case as we like to travel light ;)

Maybe we''''ve just been lucky but we''''ve never had anyone abuse anything in our villa.  My reasons for not supplying coloured pool towels is the same as Martyns, white, boiled wash twice a week.  Though if it means a lot to guests maybe we should think about it.....

Given the price of renting a villa + pool I would expect a pool towel as standard & would be most disappointed if I didn''t get one. I certainly wouldn''t nick them - overweight at Dalaman is too prohibitive for that.

I''ve stayed at Korsan Apartments for the last few years - pool towels supplied as standard.

Hi,
We would have thought that with the weight restrictions as they are, pool towels should always be available for guests. We always have and always will!

We always supply pool towels, they have never been stolen. They are washed separately but large pool towels easily make up a  machine load. We have many repeat guests and we offer them a service whereby we keep a bag for them from year to year. They fill it with whatever they don''t want to take back, sandals, sun creams, swimming costumes etc and when they return the following year, it is waiting for them.

We are able to do this because we live here all the time and in our own home have plenty of storage. We regard our repeat guests as friends not customers, keep in touch with them through the year and really look forward to seeing them again when they come back to Kalkan. We hope they feel at home when they stay in our apartment. We are now fully booked for 2009, so adding a few personal touches benefits everyone.

Martin - you must have fab towels if they keep getting pinched!

Lantana - what a lovely idea - no wonder you keep getting repeat guests.

We don''t let our apartment out but if we did we would do so with beach towels, because they are there already - in fact it would be interesting to know for those with homes in Kalkan, what do you do with all your personal belongings when you have guests?
Currently have a duplex apartment in Kiziltas which we visit as often as we can.

I have noticed that when we wash our towels in Kalkan,,although we use conditioner they go rock hard when they dry!!But when the cleaners wash them they go fluffy!! is there an underground network of tumble driers we don''t know about????

I discovered a new type of towel on a recent trip away - waterproof!  I was subsequently told that this can often be the effect of washing towels with fabric conditioner.  I''m guessing that the speed with which things dry in Kalkan may be a factor in them becoming rather rough for sensitive types like BL and myself.

I need to get out more.

5 mins with a rough towel can undo 3 days of prolonged laze in the sun activity!!.....especially when you are a scaly little critter!! :P

Interesting replies...thanks everyone.

We always wash our pool towels a good few times whilst we are there - for those of you who don''t supply them because you''re worried about making your whites pink in a boil wash, ask your guests to ensure they leave pool towels clean for the next guests (if you have a washing machine of course!)....blimey I clean our rented accomodation before departure and wash our own pool towels that we are leaving   It shouldn''t be a problem. I''m amazed that people nick towels when they are so cheap (and lovely) to buy.

No-one has mentioned what they do with towels that are left behind by guests like us?...except Brooksie, of course  ;D ;D

BTW, towels being my chosen specialised subject, we always wash and dry our pool towels out of direct sunlight, and they are as soft and fluffy as something of an advert for fabric conditioner - don''t know if that''s the reason ;)

Using fabric conditioner on towels is a BIG mistake. Contrary to what you would think, it makes them go hard and they won''t absorb water.

We never use conditioner on towels, even at home!  Just a simple boil wash with a mild detergent and a natural dry (NOT tumble dry) keeps them soft and fluffy! (We learnt this from the lady who owns the apartment below ours in the block - she is a South African ex-hotelier)!

Finally, the pool towel issue. To provide or not to provide, that is the question.

It''s all about value for money. We keep our prices down by NOT providing pool towels and other so-called "luxury" items, and concentrating instead on the things that are really important - daily cleaning, linen changed twice weekly, tip-top pool maintenance and a decent level of equipment, in a great location, at a very competitive price.  Judging by the number of repeat bookings we are getting, we must be doing something right!
