Road trip from Bodrum to Kalkan - Any suggestions?

I''m hoping some of you well informed folk could give us some advice. We are attending a friends wedding in Bodrum next year and would then drive on to Kalkan to spend a week at our apartment. We would like to stop off for a couple of nights along the way, we don''t mind going slightly off piste if necessary. Any reccommendations would be greatly appreciated. We would rather avoid large resorts like Marmaris and have already stayed in Turunc.

Also, how many hours drive is it? We are undecided whether to fly into Dalaman and back or into Bodrum then return from Dalaman, this seems an expensive option though.

I drove from Bodrum to Kalkan a few years ago. It took about six hours. Can''t suggest any stop offs.

Well if you don''t mind driving a bit further north I guess the obvious place if you have never been would be ephesus, there is a village nearby called Sirince which would be a lovely place to stay.

The Bodrum peninsula has some lovely places too.

Otherwise Akyaka, Bozburun and Datca Peninsulas, Dalyan. Try this website for places to stay www.nisanyan.net

i''d break the back of the journey and stay in Dalyan..if you haven''t been on the river thats worth doing ..why not take a mud bath and smell like an egg? even so you are right next to Dalaman..so it''s a good bet if you drive or fly

Have you thought of visiting Mugla?  It''s a fairly large place with a fascinating Ottaman quarter leading up to a hill with great views.  Also there is an excellent museum.  The tourist office can find you hotels when you arrive.

The Datcha peninsula is well worth as visit but avoid Marmaris unless you want to mix with thousands of British tourists and enjoy full english breakfasts and fish and chips (great at home but not in Turkey).  The town of Datcha has a lot in common with Kalkan and the sea scenery is magnificent.

Finally, for somewhere off the beaten track, but actually close to the main highway 400, try Koycegis, not far from Dalaman, which is a small town on a large inland lake linked to the sea by a small channel.  The locals have deliberately eschewed tourism, i.e. no big developments, but they are very welcoming prices are lower than many nearby places.
