Kas road trip
« on: September 18, 2013, 05:27:56 PM »
Started this post last night but hit something and it disappeared  ???

Yesterday took the car ,along with map, Lizilu but to be honest did not need it as hubby had drawn his own from google earth!!!

We planned to go to Kas for lunch but first we wanted to visit kekova. I love this journey the road hugs the coast all the way with some spectacular scenery. We headed over the new road passed Kas and then turned down towards kekova. The scenery changes to beautiful green hillsides covered with pine. The road was very quiet with only a few goats and their keepers. On reaching kekova a wee man was at the barrier to take 5 tl off us for parking not bad but finding a space was.......where did all the people come from?

We wandered about a bit had a drink by the harbour and thought ' aren't we glad were not out in a boat today' .....water looked really rough! Time to head for lunch to our favourite restaurant in Kas ...Cinarlar  can't sing the praises of this place enough.....free pride and dips, free pancakes with ice cream and chocolate sauce to finish mmmmhhhh for mains we chose lots of things to share , salad, calamari, prawns, borek and the meat ball casserole ...which is to die for. With a bottle of wine and a bottle of water 147 tl for 4 .....well worth it.

On the way back we called into Adams for coffee and just to admire the view!

Today was lazy in the morning then headed down for lunch ...chose Kaptans BBQ   It was a real treat never eaten here before but will be back. The highlight for me was the baked peaches with almond sauce Mmmmmmmmhhhhhhh

Tonight I'm cooking got some herbs and spices and some lamb chops they've been marinating all afternoon so hope their good.

The sunset tonight has been beautiful .....a few clouds in the sky which all added to the colour if I figure out how to post a picture on here I'll let you see x

Fab report Anne! Baked peaches sounds like my kind of dessert! :) :) How's the weather in the evening now? Just wondering if I need to pack cardi/jacket for evenings next week. Or just call in the lovely pashmina shop there and buy a couple of those!!!

Agree with you about Cinarlar in Kas, good food at a great price and a very warm welcome. Ferat who works there is a lovely person and is so funny. We always eat there when we are in Kas. I think their Esme is the best I have had.

Sounds like youve had a fab couple of days Anne. Glad your road trip went well and you weren't too hassled at kekova like we were last year. I love getting in the car (provided I'm not in the driving seat). Singing along to  a cheesy CD on and admiring the gorgeous views.
Both your lunches sounded really nice and I must try those baked peaches with almond sauce at Kaptans next time we are in Kalkan.
I'm really enjoying your reports, keep 'em coming!!!  :)

I will put it as gently as possible so as not to offend...in our language peach is the "B" word for being born out of wedlock.. :P

Oh dear. I hope by now you are both back in kalkan. I believe the hospitals are very good and thorough but it's not something you want to find out on holiday.

I hope all ıs ok now.Its really dıffıcult beıng ıll ın a strange country where procedures are so dıfferent from the UK.Dıstances are a problem and we wıll be very lucky when the new state hospıtal opens ın Kas.Whılst we have the health centre and doctors ın Kalkan ıts a long trıp to Fethıye ıf an emergency occurs or specıalıst treatment ıs requıred.

Joycıe - I can speak very hıghly of the health care system here, they saved my lıfe and I hope your husband has now recovered and back ın Kalkan agaın.Its harder, I thınk, for the relatıve than the patıent ın these sıtuatıons.
