« on: August 19, 2008, 02:55:24 PM »
Hi to all you Kalkan lovers, just two questions, has anyone brought a Villa alarm from the shop in Kalkan, we are looking to install one in our villa, and how much was it? we haven''t had any trouble, but no good waiting, our nabours brought one from England, but wanted to know about them here.
The other one is I am clicking on Accommodation and nothing is happening, should I tell John? many Thanks

Have you tried the wireless alarms, they are pretty good and are very light, some of them work off just a
key fob, same as a car, easy to use and you can easily fit them your self, some are solar with a back up battery, they are £80 upwards in uk and you can add bits on as you need to.

Do I assume that you are here all the time if you are going to fit and alarm ? or if you are not here and it is activated who is going to respond to it?
Just curious

Yes kevact, I think this is a problem, they can only really work if you are at home at the time it is activated, I think this probably would scare off an intruder without you then having to confront them in the night. Unfortunately a lot of brek-ins occur during the day, when you''re out. I can,t see how they can work if you''re back in the U.K

we are also thinking of taking an alarm out with us next time. Whereas we wouldn''t like to be broken into in the day while we were out the main reason for taking one out is so that we can use it at night while we are there. I would rather be woken by an alarm than by someone who has broken in standing in my bedroom going through my things as has been mentioned recently. We probably wouldn''t use it while the apartment is empty, that''s a risk we''re willing to take.

Have any of you heard of these alarms that send a message to your mobile phones?  Apparently they send you a text message and picture of what''s going on in your property.

I know it''s pointless if you are in the UK, but at least you could alert someone, i.e property maintenence people if you had an intruder.

Take a look at www.maplin.co.uk. They have some inexpensive door/window alarms from £5 up to £15. I shal be taking some out next month.

We are returning to Kalkan after 10 years and hiring a villa for 2 weeks in October (we stayed in a hotel before) and I''m now concerned about being robbed while asleep in my bed - Lynda''s comment is particularly worrying - am I over reacting?

If you didn''t read this forum you wouldn''t have know about the break ins, anyway there has only been two, this summer,  I have had a villa for six years and have had no problems.
I lock up here in England and in Kalkan, just the same.
I am going to put an alarm up, for my own piece of mind and for my  guests.
I think  Kalkan is still as safe as most places.

Don''t worry enjoy, your holiday and lock up.
