Best place for handbags?
« on: September 17, 2014, 07:54:43 PM »
So I'm heading out to Kalkan next Sunday as a woman on a mission... to purchase a new handbag! My sister mentioned that a new place had opened next to the taxi rank, anyone made a purchase from there yet? Which is your favourite shop for a new handbag?

Any advice much appreciated!

Love the handbags in BSG but have been a little distracted by jewellery this year.

It really does depend on your budget.... Having bought a number of handbags of the last 3 years in Kalkan I would recommend Misty May and Need for quality and their un-pushy service.  In my first year of purchasing(!) BSG were good but in the last two years I felt that they were really not up there in terms of quality - but that's my personal opinion. One shop I would NOT recommend is the one called Mulberry up by the Moonlight Bar, been there in a blinkered state and regretted it!

Enjoy perusing and don't feel pushed into buying.
Lou :)

Try Simply Chic up Kalamar Road just before Bread & More, past Oasis hotel.  Not the cheapest but has some fakes practically indistinguishable from real.

Smallish selection but especially this time of the season some good bargains possible !

Enjoy shopping  ;D

I have bought bags from Nuri, Simply chic and BSG (not all at the same time). I found the best thing to do was compare prices and quality, then decide. As K4E says, "spread the love"  ;D

Handy hint - make sure you are sober when purchasing but it's fine to be slightly squiffy when perusing  - as I usually am  ;D

There so many to choose from now

Over the years I have bought from class leather (expensive, but quality is very good, still have ones from 7 years ago and like new), last few years I have also bought from Misty Mae, always good and occasionally from BSG. The one I bought from the shop next to the moonlight bar was cheaper but has not lasted as well the others.

aaahhh bags...my favourite subject :)
As Lizilu says I like to spread the love. Take some time to go around all the shops, check the prices and any deals - some shops discount if you buy more than one. You need to check lining, zips etc for correct logos and workmanship. Take some pictures with you of the bags you would like to buy - Nuri (next to Moonlight) can often get them in a couple of days and I have never had a problem with any of his bags (and I've bought plenty over the years ::)) I think my favourite shop for bags this year - and certainly where I got the best deal - is the new one by Cafe Leon. Can't remember what its called but her discount for two bags was the best and they are very good quality. BSG offer discount for cash but wont discount more if you are buying more than one.
Happy bag shopping :)

BTW does anytone think its ironic that there's a bag shopped named misty
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

There's a member of the forum called misty who has a bee in his bonnet (I think that's a nice way of putting it...do you agree ladies..?) about bags that are designer copies. He isn't very polite about those of us who buy them and generally chips in with his own particular brand of bile when he sees a thread like this.
The fact that there's a shop called Misty May just makes me laugh...ironically of course. I'm sure there is absolutely no connection :)

Very nice and polite K4E and very diplomatic too.  :)

I wonder if 'misty may' be keeping his head down at the moment  ??? or will this thread  lure him into action  ???  :)  :P :)

Yes very nice way of putting it K4E, us bag ladies need to keep on shopping and not be criticised for bag shopping or posting our holiday blogs! Don't read threads that you are not interested in just to irritate, and then everyone is happy! just saying!

I  bought a bag from the market in May 2013 but the handle fell off after 3 months. Thought I had learned my lesson so my daughter and I both made purchases from the aforementioned Mulberry shop next to Moonlight this July. Daughter paid 350 lire for hers and yesterday...the handle fell off! Fortunately we are back there in a couple of weeks so the Mulberry shop will be one of our first ports of call. We may have just been unlucky...?
