Be Careful if Going on Jeep Safari
« on: June 24, 2014, 08:09:42 AM »
Two British people have died and two Britons have been taken to hospital after a "jeep safari accident" in Turkey, the Foreign Office has said.
The crash happened near Fethiye, in the south west of the country, it said.
Reports suggest an open-top vehicle crashed into a telegraph pole as the group - which included three Turkish nationals - returned from a day trip to the Saklikent Gorge.
The Foreign Office said it was providing consular assistance.
A spokesman said: "We are aware of a jeep safari accident near Fethiye in Turkey involving four British nationals, two of whom have died and two of whom have been hospitalised."
Three Turkish nationals, including the driver, were also injured, according to reports.
Saklikent Gorge is a mountain gorge around 27 miles (44 km) from the town of Fethiye and around 310 miles (500 km) south west of the Turkish capital Ankara.

Yes, I saw this on the KTLN facebook page last night. It's terrible isn't it. My heart goes out to their families.

We vowed never to go on one of these a few years ago when we were in Fethiye. We had gone out for a meal one night and in the restaurant were a family of 4, 3 in wheelchairs, all of them injured but 2 on IV infusions, complete with drip stands, bandages everywhesre, plastercasts  and arms and legs sticking out at weird angles, cuts and bruises and sutures. Turns out they had an accident on a jeep safari on the way back from Saklikent. What got me though was that they were enthusing to us what a fab day they had had and how much they could recommend it to us!!! Errm  ??? no thanks!!!
