Micro fibre beach towels
« on: March 29, 2014, 11:44:12 PM »
.Hi,

Has anyone got any thoughts on micro-fibre beach towels? We normally do not have to take towels as the hotel provided them but going SC will be different. Someone suggested these towels as they were a lot lighter to carry, but are they any good?

Not sure about micro-fibre towels but pestimal (turkish towels) are great. So light, absorbent and quick drying.
A great selection in Kalkan too and not expensive.I have noticed over the last couple of years more and more people have discovered them.I use every day at home too.

We travel with the micro-fibre towels, have done for several years great space savers and function well.
Several villa/Apartment owners provide beach towels so might be worth checking 1st.. We have had a few times where guests to our villa had not realised beach towels were included so packed their own, even though we advertise 'beach towels included' I now also remind guests just before the holiday.

I have a very responsible position...

They provide beach towels at the Korsan. Microfibre towels are light but do not dry you properly in my opinion. The turkish Hamman towels are a far better option, light, excellent for drying you off and wash and dry very quickly.

The pestimals sound great.  How much do they cost and where is the best place to buy them?

You can buy the hamman towels in the Thursday market from 5TL, depending on what quality you want. They sell them in loads of shop in town, I bought some from a shop opposite Cafe Del Mar a couple of years ago, about 10TL each I think. We tried the microfibre towels for a while and agree that they don't seem to dry you.

Thanks everyone for the advise. I was wondering about the micro fibre being as good. I never liked the  velour beach towels as they never seemed to dry as ell.

JoanH I have sent you a pm.

Looking forward to  going SC at the Korsan. sure it will be better than my experience in Lanzarote

The towel shop opposite Cafe Del Mar closed a few years ago. There is one on the same side as Cafe Del Mar a bit further up the hill for Turkish towels or the market on Thusday have fantastic quality beach towels. If you don't want to add the weight to your cases going home I understand KAPSA would be grateful for them before you leave.

Hi Barb

We bought the Turkish towels last year and were great for taking out for the day. We had beach towels provided by our villa which were great round the pool but found it was easier to use the Turkish ones for going to beach clubs as they are so light and  don't take up much room. For some reason our kids never seemed capable of carrying their own towels so poor OH used to look like a Sherpa carrying a large rusk sac with all the big fluffy towels so a big thumbs up from him for the Turkish towel  :) The only time I missed a thicker towel was when we went to Patara Beach. We were so used to the soft cushioned sun beds at the beach clubs so hadn't given a thought that we would be laying on hard plastic  :(

This will make you laugh !!  Last year we had looked at the details of so many villa's that we thought that the one we had rented had pool towels include . On arrival we found towels on the sun beds which we thought was strange because it had rained the night before . They were only held together by a few threads but we soldiered on ,washed the last bit of life out of them and used them for the whole 3 weeks of our holiday .
When we returned I got on my high horse and complained to the owner , you can guess the reply " we don't supply pool towels they were the sun bed protectors "
What wally's .
The morel of this story is always read and re-read the details of the villa and owners please please supply pool towels because meanies like me only pay for one suitcase between the two of us .

Yes..they seem to sell most things but often at a price..the beach towels were reasonably priced though last year..we shop at Bim and A101 supermarkets for basics and lucky opp taxi rank for booze...this year I am determined to get my inflatable crocodile airbed :P

Bit like us BL....we also have the same attitude to our food shopping in UK. A bit in Tesco, some in Aldi, Lidl - wherever has the best value  ;)
When we are in Kalkan, I don't think there's a supermarket or greengrocers we don't go in at some point and I'm forever comparing the prices. If Bim sold booze, we'd be in there every day - trek up the hill or no trek up the hill :)
