Asfiya Sea View Hotel
« on: March 01, 2014, 05:21:11 PM »
Does anyone have any information about this new hotel?

We would appreciate it if anyone can give us any guidance on the exact location and estimated time to walk into town?

Many thanks

There is the Asfiya Hotel on the Kalamar Road about 10 minutes walk to the town centre but not heard of the Asfiya Sea View.

I did my usual Googling (although I should actually be doing something about preparing a meal) and discovered that indeed there will be a hotel called Asfiya Sea View, new for 2014.   All the pictures are artists impressions so I guess it is still at the building stage.   Looks as if it will be really rather nice.  If the maps are accurate it appears to be around the same distance from the Old Town as the Meldi hotel and not too long to walk into town.   I would guess maybe ten minutes to the taxi rank.   Looking at the various blurbs about it I don't imagine it will be at the cheaper end of the price range!  Discerning Collection are marketing it but other places have it on their list as well.

If you go down the road opposite Bread and More on Kalamar Road and walk towards the sea you will see some new villas that were built last year. Next to these will be the hotel. Since I am not yet in Kalkan I don't know how the construction has gone this winter. The villas will form part of the hotel as I understand.

So sad that those villas, The Pavillion Resort and this new hotel have all been built on what was supposed to be protected greenbelt land.... :(
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

If these properties have been built illegally, wouldn't the same rules apply as those being enforced in the harbour area, which will mean that restaurants which have expanded over the years into 'public space' are being forced to dismantle structures and 'return the land to the people'? Or is it more complicated than that?

I don't think for one minute any of the property built on those olive groves in the "protected" green space have been built illegally. More that for the right price the land was redefined....

I think they have all been built by the same builder who is well known and powerful in Kalkan. It would seem that getting permission for him to build another hotel or villas isn't a problem. I agree that it is very sad to see the olive grove by the sea disappearing.

I wonder if the new administration will be halting this practice, which I understand has been commonplace for years.

Well if they stick to their election promises...who knows? I seem to recall the last administration also promised to curb building work of this nature too ??? The thing is once the land has been built on, its gone forever - however nice the property is (and it is very nice and in a beautiful unrivalled (IMO) location)
