Mobile and phones and Ipads .
« on: September 09, 2013, 01:06:51 AM »
Kalkanites . I am returning to Kalkan this year following a couple of holiday free years   :'(  so really looking forward to it . In fact ,very excited .I need a bit of advice. Is it possible to get a sim for a mobile phone for the duration of my stay.I would bring my iPhone ,but a phone just for calls and texting that I can pay for whilst there so no nasty bills when I get home. !!
Also , if I bring my iPad will I have to have a sim in it ,or will I be able to use wifi from the Hotel that tells me that they have free wifi. Not technical so please to know if I can use iPad ,but dont want to pay Orange a mortgage for the privelege.
My adult Son is travelling with me and we will be staying at Kulube ,as we always do.If there are any meet ups from29/09 until 11/10 would love to join in.

Hi Darcy , you can use your iPad anywhere that says it has free wifi you just ask for the code . This is most if not all restaurants and cafeteria.
I looked into buying a Turkish sim and they want to register the Mobil so I gave up and take a pay as you go sim and phone , but always end up using my iPhone as well with roaming turned off . If you are careful it's not a great bill .

download and setup the viber application, turn data roaming off, wifi on, on both ipad and iphone.  , log onto wifi whenever available (more or less every restaurant, hotel and bar has free wifi, just go to settings, wi-fi, select the network and ask staff for the code) use viber to call/txt from your phone to anyone else with viber on their phone for free. so if both your son and yourself have viber you can call/txt each other for free (whilst on wifi) if the other person is in the UK and has data roaming on or connected to wifi you can also call them for free.. viber is available for android devices as well as iphones.

I will be in Kalkan 30/9 for 6 days   8) 8)
I have a very responsible position...
When anything goes wrong I’m responsible!!

You could also download the Skype app and use that.  I added £10 to my Skype account so I can phone my elderly mother each night on her landline to make sure all is ok.  The £10 has lasted for 3 years - each call is pennies

Ditto all the above :) You'll have no problem as free wifi is everywhere - but you MUST turn off data roaming!!

Also if you get "what's app" fr your phone & you friends & family have it too you can text for free to each other (you need a relatively new phone for this app though)
