Bed too hard?
« on: August 07, 2013, 09:57:06 PM »
Why are beds so hard in Turkey?
We decided last year to look for a softer mattress for our double bed in Kalkan, as we weren't sleeping too well on the hard orthopedic one we had had for 10 plus years. Unfortunately, by the time we had found a good one it was too late to take delivery.
When I was out in early May I went straight to the Istikbal dealer in Kas and ordered one of their Orgaflex mattresses which was delivered some 3 or 4 weeks later.
Straight away we slept better and felt more refreshed in the mornings! If anyone is looking for a new mattress, try the Istikbal Orgaflex, I don't think that there is any better or, softer, quality mattress on the Turkish market.
My posts tonight sound like adverts!

Bubbles - are you able to advise how much these mattresses are?  I'm looking to have a good nights sleep.

As a frequent apartment renter I find that the beds are fine but the pillows are often awful.  A good quality pillow makes all the difference to a good night's sleep and are relatively low cost but in the main tend to be overlooked!

I love hard beds for some reason but can't sleep in soft ones. If you don't want to buy new mattresses, mattress toppers are brilliant for making beds softer.

I agree about the pillow quality too - it's not so bad if spares are provided but when you only get one wafer-thin pillow each, it's really disappointing.

I can sleep on a clothes line so the beds/pillows don't bother me in the least.....I would be distraught if I had to take a pillow with me as I couldn't bear to lose so much space in my case :'(
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

I think that I should have made it a bit plainer than I did. The Orgaflex mattress is not soft, (it is about medium on the scale used by Vi-Spring) and it has a built in mattress topper. We took out a mattress topper about 10 years ago but, although that seemed fine at first, it gradually became apparent that the firmness of the mattress was not doing my back any favours, (two slipped discs).
Chickengeorge, it came through on my card statement as £232.62 or 650TL. (That was when it was 2.79TL to £1. Today it is 2.98 so that would be £218.12.) That was just for the mattress, a storage base is another 5-600TL-ish.
