Eating out
« on: June 17, 2013, 09:35:10 PM »
Hi,

Can some of you kind people give me an idea of the cost of eating out in a average cafe/bar restaurant. The cost of a local beer, juice and bottled water ,as this will help me budget my trip.

Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,

There are a number of eating options to suit all budgets in Kalkan. You can have some really lovely meals in the local cafes such as Fener, Chillies, Cafe Leon and Cafe Vita for two people for around 50TL - 60TL for, say a salad, shish kebab, turkish pide (like a pizza) and a few beers. Chillies give a free starter of turkish bread, cheese, garlic butter and olives too.

Then you can go to the beautiful rooftops such as Agora, tanZore, Sade, Gourmet and have complimentary bread/nibbles at most to start, beautiful mains - steaks, chicken casseroles etc with dessert and a bottle of wine for 100 TL - 160 TL.

The local beer is Efes and the price can range from 5TL - 8TL. The local wine (that I've tasted - there are others) is called Agora - both red and white is roughly 25 TL a bottle and the local rosé is called Lal (my favourite) is roughly 35 TL a bottle. A cappuccino is roughly 3.50 TL. Fresh juices in the supermarket are between 2 - 3 TL and a large bottle of still water 10ltrs about 8 TL (that's a guesstimate as OH was sent to the shop to march back with these and can't remember the exact price)!

Further down this section another member, PW did a post named 'restaurant and bar prices and a bit of perspective' which is really useful.

The exchange rate can fluctuate between 2.5 - 2.8 to the £, to help you budget. The exchange rate was about 2.7 when we were last there (3 weeks ago). Hope this helps.

We went to Yali Beach Club yesterday, which is really lovely, albeit, they are charging 10tl for a large Efes.....is this the most expensive Efes in town ???
Latest weather report...... Large outbreaks of Efes followed by intermitent spells of vodka and tonic ;-))

If you don't mind sitting on cushions on the floor, you can have a fantastic meal of charcoal grilled fish, lots of mezes and veggies, fruit + 1 beer for around TL 25 p/p.  The restaurant is owned by Mehmet and is on the left side of the road just before arriving into Patara village.  You can't miss it because the family also sells souvenirs and small, handwoven carpets made by his wife.  There is always one in progress on the loom.  No car?  No problem.  Mehmet will come to pick you up.  We have been there twice and both times the food was excellent.

Very pleasant family and very good value.  Only downside is that back support against cushions is limited to 4 people and you have to stretch your legs out under the table or sit cross-legged.

Cheap Efes in Bread& More great, our local, just two minutes walk down the slope past the Chinese after taking the jeep back to the villa when we are desperate for an ice cold drink after a long hot, bumpy day exploring. Just what the doktor ordered  8)
