Thinking of coming to Kalkan for the first time!!
« on: May 29, 2013, 11:23:43 PM »
Hi all
I have just registered and I would like to come visit for the first time in August
There is me my husband and my son who is 17 and is autistic.
My son loves the pool and the beach so I am looking for a hotel or apartments with a decent size pool for him to jump in ect
Can anyone recommend anywhere that's is not too expensive..
I look forward to any replies
Oh and before I forget do you think the area would be suitable for someone with learning difficulties
He can walk ect so that part is fine
Many thanks

You could try the Dream Hotel: http://www.kalkandreamhotel.com/

It's very central, inexpensive, family run, and has one of the best pools I've seen in Kalkan. It is next door to my apartment, and I have booked to stay there for 3 weeks in July. Contact the manager Ergun, or his wife through the website and discuss your requirements with them.

Good luck with your search - you will have a fabulous time in Kalkan.

Also have a look at the Samira Deluxe.  It's further from the centre of town but there are always plenty of teenagers there as they have a pool table, air hockey, table tennis etc. and they have a shuttle bus a couple of times a day to town.

We stayed there a few year ago and it was good value.  Don't book direct though, you will probably find it cheaper on the likes of Travel Republic.

http://www.samiraresort.com is their website
Currently have a duplex apartment in Kiziltas which we visit as often as we can.

I would add Elixir to the list, down the Kalamar rd, about a 10-15 min walk fairly flat (in Kalkan terms!) great pool etc.
'do you think the area would be suitable for someone with learning difficulties' In general Turks are very family orientated and inclusive, they go out of their way to help with children, elderly, infirm etc. they look after everyone! I am sure your son will enjoy many of the activities down at Kalamar beach club, tubing down the river at Saklikent Gorge etc. etc.
I have a very responsible position...
When anything goes wrong I’m responsible!!

Also have a look at Asiyan Hotel - very reasonable and very central www.hotelasiyan.com
And if you fancy self catering in a hotel setting the new Kalkan Suites are also very central, newly refurbished from being a hotel last year www.kalkansamiragarden.com
It's a very popular time to be in Kalkan so places are generally booked well in advance so if these places are all full come back on here and see if we can help you further.
I'm sure you will love Kalkan :)

The Bella Monte isn't far from the Samira Deluxe and when we walked past in at Easter, it looked a little bit tired  :( but it is cheap!

Think you have made a wise choice..although I know little about this hotel with it being new for this year the location is excellent.... Some of those up the hill have nice views and a cooling breeze (sometimes) and a walk down can be quite nice ..but in the august heat? taxis can add to your expenses and gobble up money you could be spending on nicer things and you can come and go into the village as you please ;)

 ta ta for now

Just had a look at the Dream hotel website, looks a lovely hotel, whereabouts in Kalkan is it? We're back at the Pirat this year but just thinking for future visits. Will look forward to your report on it Tess!

We have been to the Bella Monte bar/restaurant a couple of times. It is a friendly family run hotel the restaurant serves inexpensive and very good homemade Turkish food. Didn't get to see the rooms but the public areas looked well cared for.

Its about a 10 minute down hill walk into town, and obviously an uphill walk back.

I spent quite a lot of time at the Dream Hotel over the past 3 weeks, as the manager, Ergun and I were helping each other with little jobs. As I've said before, the pool is fab, and the terrace views are breathtaking. The white mattresses on the sunbeds must be at least 6 inches thick - no expense has been spared. There's a lovely shaded pergola overlooking the sea with comfy beanbags, and the Turkish breakfasts served on the pool terrace looked lovely. Ergun showed me round all the rooms so I could choose which one I wanted for my 3 week stay there in July. Everything is brand new and spotless, and the public areas are immaculate. My price included transfers too which made it very affordable.

I understand there are no plans to market the hotel through main travel agents - Ergun told me he prefers to have personal contact with his guests, as there aren't a large number of rooms. The season had just started and there were only a couple of people there last week, but I don't think it will be long until this is one of Kalkan's most popular hotels.
