Those Books
« on: August 12, 2012, 07:58:50 AM »
My OH has been bitten by the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' bug and is planning to bring the trilogy with her. I am trying to reduce the weight of our baggage and have said that these books are not appropriate for Kalkan. Any thoughts?

Ditto to Tatilde - an ereader of some sort it the way to go as you can load up masses of books quite cheaply (although of course the cost of the device takes time to recoup). As far as Fifty Shades trilogy goes, I took the books to Spain on my Sony Reader earlier in the year and made it to the end of the second book before losing the will to live. It's tripe and your wife may well rue the luggage space she used up dragging these books all the way out to Kalkan.

As a secondary point the ereader market doesn't begin and end at the Kindle - look at the Kobo Touch as an alternative. The Kobo bookstore is excellent and unlike Kindle the device is not tethered to a locked in format so you can buy your ebooks from a variety of stores. I buy a lot of books for my Sony at the Kobo store but because it runs ePub and PDF files I can shop anywhere but Amazon including Sony Bookstore, Google Books (via Google Play) and Waterstones. Good price on the Kobo Touch too compared to other 'touch' ereaders: http://www.whsmith.co.uk/CatalogAndSearch/kobotouchereader.aspx

Fifty shades darker will deffo be my read this evening on my flight from Manchester to Dalaman! You could always cover the covers of the books with wall paper or gift wrapping like we used to do with our school text books, then no one will know what your OH is reading!!!

Well judging by last week on Kalkan town beach - every other person was reading 1 of the trilogy (including me and my daughter!!) so appropriate or not - no need to feel any embarrassment from your OH!!!! :)

Likewise when we were there last month semed like every woman from the beach to the beach club to the boat trip was reading one of them. Have to admit I was one of them and for total holiday reading escapism they are worth the baggage allowance.
As far as not being suitable for Kalkan :o along with the dress police are we now to have the book police >:(

I would imagine, at this time in the season, most hotels or bars that have a "library" will already have at least one set of the whole trilogy. Perhaps, anyone who has seen them or indeed left them behind in Kalkan could advice you?

I have to admit that my post was 'tongue in cheek' but I really appreciate the replies. It just seems that wherever I go women seem to be obsessing about these books. For my part I'm just looking forward to enjoying my first ice cold Effes in 3 weeks time and spending two weeks de-stressing in gorgeous Kalkan. This will be our third visit and we can't wait!!

Ha ha ha! :-)

I personally thought the books (all three of them) were rubbish!
Currently have a duplex apartment in Kiziltas which we visit as often as we can.

Bit too Mills and Boon (with cable ties) for me.... ;)
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

My only concern is that my OH is now talking about packing a mini paddle (without the dinghy), a feather duster and blindfold. Should I be worried?

Half way through the third! I'm completely bored by all the sex, oh my ;D  ??? ( in the book ;D) but quite interested to see what's going to happen in the story. I have decided not to suggest them as a good read for my book club.

My lingering thought after reading the trilogy? How on earth were they able to walk, after all those shenanigans?!!!
