Residency
« on: July 27, 2012, 04:10:47 PM »
My husband and I went to see a lawyer this morning about residency. The lawyer told us that if we want to take up residency for five years we have to have 30,000 dollars each in a Turkish bank account, a total of 60,000 dollars in total. Is this correct?

Yes they were correct

But you only need it on the day you apply you don't have to keep it there for the duration of your Residency

But the Authorities seem to like to see a little history that it hasn't just appeared

Hi kevincat99
Any chance of a sub of $60,000 for a week?

You only need the money on deposit if you can't demonstrate you have an adequate income from pensions etc.  as I understand it if you can prove you have an income of 500$ each per month you don't need money in a Turkish bank.  Of course you have to go to the trouble of having your pension details notarised and translated.  Another option is to go for a 2 year residency for example and renew after 2 years, that way you need 12000$ each deposited.

Yes the pensions income is another way to go but you have to prove that it is guarantteed for life and is from a very relaible source i.e pensions company , the State

It cannot be an income that can dissappear at some point

Thanks everyone for your replies. We will just have to transfer the money from England at least we will make some interest while it is in the Turkish bank.

In the case of showing pension income, I did it (translated and notorised) with a certificate from my private pension manager so it doesn't have to be a state pension.

There is a blog elsewhere on this site by someone who has moved to Kalkan full time, and he says that it is possible to apply for Turkish residency from the UK.... that doesn't sound right to me. Does anyone know if this is true (and if so, how)?

is this a first?!

four of us went to kemer yesterday to start the process of obtaining residency. we arrived at 8.30 am and after 2 hours our paperwork was declared correct.we then went to the tax office to pay the money (another long queue) and then returned to the police station and queued another hour and were told they were shut for lunch. we returned again to give our receipts for the payment. we were then asked to return a week later to collect our booklet. we asked for a later date as i am returning to the uk on wednesday. they asked where we had travelled from that day and when we said kalkan they must have felt sorry for us and asked us to return at 5pm to collect our documents!! all done and dusted on one day :)
