Where to go on arrival
« on: August 28, 2011, 04:44:30 PM »
Only a few days to go before the annual Kalkan chill-out, and just for a change we're not arriving at an hour that sane people would be sleeping.

Bearing in mind that you can get some sort of lunch ( ;D) at the departure airport, the food on the aircraft is either pointless or expensive or non-existent (or all three), and you then arrive in Kalkan sometime around 11pm, the question arises, what to do to keep the blood glucose levels at an acceptable level until breakfast (without resorting to a liquid diet)?

So, the question is, just where can you get the situation rectified between 11 and midnight or thereabouts?  No doubt there are loads of places, and we know that it's unlikely that you'd get the UK "we're closed" response in Kalkan, but where do you guys recommend to get something when you arrive around midnight, and the adrenalin has not yet returned to normal?

Dont know, I'm usually in bed by then !!
 ;)
To be honest, I dont know where you could go without knowing where you are in relation to the town/eating places, that's hoping you arrive at that time!
I'm sure somewhere will be open for food
 ;)
I'll get me coat!! ;-).....Bang on!

Was also going to suggest Ali Baba's, maybe be in time to catch something at The Merkez?

Why not check with the villa/apartment owner if they produce a welcome pack and ask about the  contents?   Then if your flight is delayed and you are more tired than expected you may be able to manage until the morning (possibly with the help of your duty free if the welcome pack doesn't contain such essentials).   This would be especially useful if your accommodation is not too close to the centre.

We normally arrive in Kalkan about that time as well. Like you we have a large lunch at the airport but we also buy a couple of sandwiches to take with us. That way when we get to our apartment, we've got something light to eat without the need to trek to town. Bout if I were close to town then I'd go to Ali Baba's.
Apartment owner nr. Kalamar.

Thanks for the replies so far - I had a feeling that Ali Baba's would crop up most!

As we're not in an apartment, the options relating to that aren't open - the Hotel's on Kalamar Road, so not far to walk into town.  It's just possible the hotel may be able to do something, but we're trying to keep our options open (and maximize the Kalkan experience as soon as possible).

There's a week to go yet, so time for more suggestions..... 8)

Have you thought about stopping on the way in say Gocek...I'm sure there will be more options available at say 9.30 / 10.30 pm there...depends if you're driving yourself or have a transfer booked

That sounds like a good idea. Does anyone know of a good eating place there. We are bringing lots of newbies next year and want the first meal in Turkish soil to be as good as we have promised.
