Storms ahead?
« on: September 29, 2010, 04:30:06 PM »
H,
Was reading the weather information, as we are going out on the 8th. It has totally changed in 2 days, from being awful for the 1st 3 days, to being lovely and sunny with thunderstorms on the Monday. Is it worth even bothering to read these forecasts. Do you bring the coats, brollies etc. with the small luggage allowance, or chance it?
Rx

we're out the same time and had to laugh when I checked the long range forecast from accu weather and saw it predicting night temperatures of 2 degrees and 14 during the day ::) Usual accu weather nonsense and yes it has since reverted back to more normal forecast. We've been out at the same time every October and it's invariably been lovely. Hot enough during the day for lying at the pool/on the beach and warm enough evenings not to need even a light jacket or cardi. Had a few showers of rain and a thunderstorm or two but never lasted any more than an hour or two before the sun came back out :)

Hello Roxie not long for you now. At the moment we are sitting on our balcony and the sun is coming down the mountain quickly towards us. Another beautiful day ahead.
Yesterday we went to the beach and the weather was glorious - not too hot but warm enough to see a change of colour.
As usual there is a warm breeze all day. In the evenings the temperature may warrant a thin coverup around the shoulders if you are up the hill out of town but in the old town its still warm.
We had rain four days ago for about 2 minutes!
Enjoy your stay - Kalkan and its beautiful people have not changed.

I don't like the look of next weeks weather on ACU it looks extremely stormy and 21 deg's ? We normally go to Kalkan at this time of the year and it is usually really nice and sunny during the day and slightly cooler in the evening. I'm really panicking cause we are taking some "first timer" freinds and really want to impress them after talking it up for so long. Kalkan always looks best in the sunshine. We arrive on Monday 11th.

accuweather must be the least accurately named company anywhere.  At least the forecast on the other site saves any of us writing an angry letter to the local council to sort the weather out

Let me know which weather site you would like EK to use and ill happily change it.... perhaps those in Kalkan could say which is most accurate!

Accuweather appear to get the general forecast reasonably correct e.g. whether sunny or cloudy but heavily underestimate the temperature.  Infact they all do.
Its currently 11.35 a.m. and the temperature is 25.5 degrees (and rising), the humidity 34 degrees.  Yesterday was very similar.
The temperature  is considerably higher than any of the forecasters referred to on this thread, even the BBC although to be fair it is commenting on Fethiye.
It's lovely and bright but the weather has changed over the past 2 or 3 days.  The breeze is a bit chilly, the evenings likewise  and the terrace is cold on the feet when you walk out in the mornings.
Mind you it's still glorious!

I am still of the belief that Accuweather should employ either a Witchdoctor or someone with a bit of seaweed!  It would be far more accurate.   Casting my mind back, during my stay (two weeks ago) it was predicting night time temps. of 56C!  Amazing the diff. between F and C!    >:D
