Road Works - D 400
« on: August 26, 2010, 04:32:56 PM »
I am sorry to re-awaken this topic again, but what is the present situation?   We are staying this year at a villa near Samira de Luxe and due to arrive on the 20th September.   Is it a "camels trek" into town, can we cross the road with a small amount of safety, can we still cut thro above the the Mosque (after crossing the D400?).  (Not literally above the Mosque - do not have the power of flight yet!)  ??? ???

Hi Maryjane

We stayed in a Villa just up from the Samira deluxe two weeks ago and the walk over the D400 is fine- you have to traverse some rubble for a couple of metres for the cut through but no major problem!

Have fun!

Dear davidm
Many thanks for your reply.   What is a bit of rubble when the delights of Kalkan are awaiting! :D

maryjane, there are regular roadworks updates - with photos - on KTLN. The last one was at the start of this month, so I expect there'll be another before you go away :)

Dear K4E, I do monitor KTLN, and have read the updates.   I still find it hard to get my head around how quickly things change, a pity Google earth does not keep up.   However, I am sure it will be an adventure this year and looking forward to my return :D :D :D

There has been very little work on the D400 since June.  What you read/see on KTLN is currently how it is.

Our daughter is across at the moment staying near the Samira, they have 2 young children including one in a pushchair, they are walking down into Kalkan every evening across the new road with no problems at all - you will be absolutely fine by the sound of things. ;)

Does anyone know when the road works will be restarting full tilt again, hammering, blasting, drilling etc.?

Hi all - does this bode badly for those holidaying after the 20th September?
Is anyone aware what (if any) disruptions we can expect?
Thanks - Lori

OMG!   I agree with Lorilu - what is in store for us who have chosen to visit in September, when Kalkan is usually at its finest!

I think Martyn was only hoping that his holiday, that I take will end on 20th September, would be nice and peaceful! I shouldn't think the roadworks would start up again until November.

Tatilde - thanks for you voice of reason ... got into "nomh" (Not On My Holiday!) mode and complete;y missed MartynE's point ...
I hope whatever time the road works start up again they don't inconvenience folk too much!

I don't expect the noise to be much of a problem when the roadworks re-start.  Based on how quickly they laid the upper carriageway, the lower should not take long at all, as all of the gravel is already in place and the pipes have almost all been laid.  Hopefully just a bit of dust and no more early morning piledrivers!

I'm staying in Komurluk last week in October. Isn't that where the roadworks have got to?
