Jazz Festival and Jazz Music
« on: April 01, 2010, 08:23:22 AM »
Hi All, I read on KTLN's website about a Jazz festival in 2009. Does anyone know if there is one planned for 2010 and if so, when?  Also, are there any bars/restaurants that have live Jazz music as a matter of course? Any ideas very gratefully received, Regards, Elaine

Baris at The Nur Hotel has live Blues and Rock. Also Pop and Turkish music. It used to be on Thursday evenings for the former and Saturday evenings for the latter, both starting around 10pm. It's a great little venue, you can dance, sing along or just listen inside or around the pool bar. If you can play or sing, you can sit in with the band! The Korsan Fish Terrace used to have a jazzy guitarist and girl singer. If you walk around you will see notices outside other restaurants advertising their live music nights.
Cheers, Allan.  8)

Thanks Allan, Top tips! I'm guessing by your photo that you do join in the band! Thanks again. Elaine.

Oh yes! It really is a lovely little music venue. Baris is a drummer too! Check out my band on www.myspace.com/cutlooseuk  and have a listen to what we sound like. We gig in East/West Sussex. Cheers, Allan.

Hi Elainecris, re: Jazz I would highly recommend you go up to the Kaptan restaurant. Have a chat with Ali Osturk (owner)there. He has the most amazing collection of Blues, Soul, Jazz you could ever dream of. (The food is great too!)

Hello
Picking up on this thread - has anyone some up to date information about a Jazz Festival for this year?
And, now that the season is in full swing, (scuse the pun), it would be good to know if there are any regular live jazz venues.
Thanks!
L

Hi again - Amber thanks for your response, and Charlie, thanks for the link to the news report about Swing Supreme.
A shot in the dark now - does this mean that visiting bands are able to book venues for gigs? Is live Jazz / Swing music generally something people (both venue owners and visitors / general public) are interested in? If anyone has knowledge or an understanding of how this might traditionally be set up I'd be interested to know...
No one has come along with news about if there is going to be a jazz festival as yet - but if someone has any info about who looked after it last time or how one might go about finding out that would be great!
Tried to find out more on KTLN but come up with very little so far ...
Sorry so many questions in one message!
L

Jazz festival update - Just found out that the last festival in September 2009 was run by a gentleman called Robert Ferguson, so have PM'd him from the KTLN website.
But if anyone else has a view, or can help with the general info I am looking for I'd be very grateful to hear from you.
Thanks
L

Hi "TheFeds"
Thanks so much for your response and putting me straight - Ah - I see I have had my wires crossed - I thought that when a "jazz festival" was mentioned by previous poster, that it might be a series of concerts run throughout the week with a number of different bands / artists. (Like 'Brecon Jazz', only by the sea in lovely Kalkan, much more palatable!) From what you say though, I see I have it wrong, and that it was one band, "Swing Supreme", touring the different restaurants / venues in 2009.
Sorry, got all excited, husband is a jazz musician / fan and it would have been nice for him to have some of his fave music live whilst we are there.
Never mind. (Now I realise why i couldn't find anything else about a 'festival'!)
Gosh, the town would be a great location for such an event though ... but then, I'm biased.
What do you all think?
thanks again
L
