New bar/internet cafe/eating place
« on: June 19, 2010, 12:55:16 PM »
when I was in Kalkan last week,a new place opened called Asiyan, just opposite Parc Kalkan, its a really nice place,we didnt eat here, but tried some food the night before and had the grand tour, the main man is called Blackjack, and he is the most campest turkish man I have ever seen, black shiny satin suit and a cowboy hat,a really nice chap,we had a couple of beers upstairs on the terrace and it was great,I will try some more beers there in oct,but if anyone has been in,how about a report.

Here is my report:

This restaurant/bar has gaudy neon lights flashing on and off throughout the night that look horribly cheap and totally out of keeping with the rest of the street and Kalkan for that matter.  Yes Kalkan is changing but not that rapidly!  Add to that the completely inappropriate rap/out of date dance music that is blaring out full blast to an empty area (no surprise) and you have got a new establishment that really should have done a little market research prior to opening up.  I feel sorry for the neighbours.......:(

We ate here last week and we thought the food was actually very good and the prices quite reasonable. Yes it does look a bit tacky with those neon flashing lights but I would recommend it to anyone.

Olive - pay attention to a positive report. Why don't you go and try the food and then post something?

PACHSU

I have nothing positive to report on this place, sorry but a dining out experience is not just about the food, I don't want to spend an evening under flashing lights being subjected to dodgy tunes, nor do many people it seems as the place appears empty each night.

Clearly if it's empty most nights then it won't be there for long.

Olive, you wont have anything positive to say about a place if you havent been in and tried it,will you ?
Its clear, that it is not your sort of venue, but why slate it,because of that,Asiyan has not been open two weeks yet,and the days leading up to the opening they were working through the night to get it finished, give them a chance.
good luck to all involved at Asiyan and I for one hope they make a go of it .  :P   >:D

One of the biggest "problems" in Kalkan is the plethora of new places to eat / drink
Sadly one wonders why they are opening as the majority are much the same with no differentiation from well established venues.
There are only a finite amount of customers to go round but still they open
Also with the increase in prices people are more likely to stick with what they know rather than try new maybe - especially if the outside of the place doesn't seem that appealing
However it's a free choice and what suits one doesn't suit another

You're so right, KC. Arif from Moonlight has opened Al Fresco right by what was Breeze/Bar B Q, in front of the hardware store. We went a couple of times to support him, and I really hope he does well - they have such big plans. I hope all Moonlight frequenters staying along the Kalamar Road or above Breeze will will think on to stop there for a drink. We were telling him he needs to be offering something different, or enticing people in with Efes cheaper than anywhere else....a loss leader, but I don't think he felt he could :(
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

They have the ottoman seating area, the nargile water pipes and a new TV, some of which are not to be found at the usual watering holes.  I really hope Arif and Ferhat do very well!
