Prices for food and drink?
« on: May 04, 2010, 10:21:05 AM »
Hi guys

Frank and i are coming out to KAlkan in two wks, bumped into an old friend last night and he said that he was in Kalkan last year, and that he found the price of food and drink in the restaurants had risen quite a lot, apparently a drink down by the harbour £8 - £9 per drink...any truth in it? if so what are the best places to go...would rather be prepared for it.

Thanks ........... Karin xx

if you paid 8£ or 9£ for a drink anywhere in Kalkan you would have to be either very drunk or it was the biggest cocktail you can buy.

It depends on what you mean by a drink, a large Effes is at most 6TL. However, if by drink you mean a cocktail or quality imported spirits at a nice restaurant then you can pay 20TL.

Also depends where you drink it! A large Efes gets cheaper the further from the harbour front you go!

Likewise with food, a lovely meal at Ibo Kebap or Oz Adana is 1/3 the price of a meal at other restaurants.

Perhaps if you could list a couple of items we could price them for you :)

I think there is a certain Kalkan resident doing research on places for watching the world cup,I am sure he could give you a run down on drink prices in most of the bars.  ;D

You know who you are.

A £ to a TL everything will be more expensive this year or the portions smaller
Just come back from OZ Adana, where as usual the food was great but now a Tuvuk Guvec [ chicken casserole ] is 16.5 TL [although you still get free salad and meze albeit in smaller dishes - tip :you can always ask for more !!] Beer is 4.5 TL
Meat is now a problem here with prices having shot up in the last few months - in Migros in Fethiye last week : beef mince 25 TL a kilo : lamb chops 32 TL a kilo and fillet steak a mouthwatering 49.5 TL a kilo all at least 50% more than 6 months ago
So expect restaurant prices to go up>>>>>>>>>>>>

Has your correspondent replied yet?.....

The occasional early seasonal adjustment of price going on.  Moonlight is not yet open and I've never been to Utopia.  Yali still has the big screen outside and I think they are charging 4.50 for a beer.  Swan is 4.50 and will be able to show the simultaneous games at the end of the first round on the numerous screens.  Piazza is only charging 3 for a beer and Lounge 3.50.  Enough?

That's not bad as a 500cl bottle is 2.75TL and a can 3 TL in the shops

Crikey...they are staggering increases in the cost of meat. Is that just in Lycian Coast areas or is something that Turkey is seeing throughout the country? I see the cost of Efes is far more worthy of discussion, though :o :o :-*  BTW is that large beer or small beer for 4.50tl?
We are already expecting to pay more for everything this year but smaller portions + price increases is a bit hard to take :(
We will choose our restaurants carefully this year...but still expect to eat and drink well...too well, really ::)
Bit surprised Moonlight hasn't opened this week, but invaluable research - thanks Eniste. Carry on...
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

One more to add - Parc Kalkan is planning to show matches - 4TL for a large draft beer and a nice relaxed setting, perhaps to watch an afternoon game between two countries you don't really care about.  Best to keep our England watching indoors, to avoid any Bodrumesque comparisons.

....and shirts...particularly the sleeveless variety...must not be removed and swung around the head and lashed into the frenzied crowd (circa 2001 Ryan Giggs) should England actually score during those games :P :P :-*

Any more rules for watching football in Kalkan ::) . Please post, probably under "anything football" as it appears the beautiful game has infiltrated this thread...ooops >:D

We noticed that the steaks were not as good quality when we were in kalkan in April, definatley not fillet. Restaurants are obvioulsy making compromises to make up for rising cost of meat.

Of course it depends which restaurant and on what day, it is a bit hit and miss.
It's unfortunate that meat prices have got so high, but I think the restaurants will still offer good value

Sorry for the misinformation about Moonlight - I realised I hadn't left town that way this week so hadn't seen them open.

New footy channels now in place at Parc Kalkan, venue of last night's stunning quiz win by a new Anglo-Aussie alliance.  Thanks in advance for your congratulations!
