Roof Construction
« on: January 13, 2010, 02:49:09 PM »
Is anyone aware of the construction details of tiled roofs in Turkey? Our apartment roof seems to be laid with just tiles slotted together, but no battens or felt like in the UK.
The top apartments have suffered continuous leaks and the whole roof may need replacing but this seems pointless if it is not done correctly.
Are there any roof/builders on the forum who could advise please?
Thanks in anticipation.

sorry but no surprise. it seems that most owners need roof work done after the first winter. we had a liquid rubber coating over a waterproof cement, then battons and tiles. this sorted our roof that has now been good for 5 years. can recomend builder if required

We're in the process of having our roof done with concrete, insulation, batons and re tiled. Must admit not by the origanal builder. Can recommand a good guy. Best way is to ask to look at the builders work when your shopping around and if possible speak to the owners of the villa.

Thank you for your replies. We will investigate further when we return to Kalkan in April.
It's good to have recommendations for a good painter too as that will be the next job!

Hi Bassett, is that you Pam? How long did it take to complete your roof repairs? we are out for a limited visit in April and would like ours repaired before the beginning of the season, out for 9 days do you think that would be feasible. Was he reasonable as far as price goes as there seems to be no stopping of excessive price increases. We had a quote for a repair last year which was 100% more than the roof repaired down the road by the same man 2 weeks previous.

The turkish builders never had roofing felt before and on recently have started using it with insulation as well....I did a roof last year that had only steel bars to support the tiles..and you could see the sky in places...
Now you will find they use timber planks or sheeting first then insulation felt then tiles...
No doubt you have this covered now by all the great replies from friends here on the site..just make sure you do not hand over all the payment at once...unless you know the builder well...

I am also out in April and am desperate for roofer for a tiled roof on club patara. could also do with someone to look after villa maintenance etc, preferably with UK account for easy payment, but more importantly someone honest and reliable please...any recommendations would be most welcome. Also need good dentist as porcelain work in UK is beyond my budget. Many thanks.
