Winter rental in Jan. or Feb.
« on: November 05, 2009, 05:34:44 PM »
Hi All,
Could anybody please P.M. me information about any property to let for a week in January or February.  We only need one bedroom as we just want to get some idea of what Kalkan is like in the winter, as we're looking to possibly relocate over the next year or so.
                        Cheers, Steve

Hi Steve

Have pm'd you re accommodation.

In terms of what Kalkan is like; well, it's obviously quieter than during the summer! Most of the bars and restaurants close for the winter but there are a few that stay open all year round: Kaya, Aubergine & Sofra to name a few.

There is also a solid and growing community of ex-pats living in Kalkan all year round and they seem to get together on a fairly regular basis.

Obviously the weather is cooler and considerably wetter (you will need blankets and/or heating at night) but days can still be gloriously sunny and warm by UK standards. However, when it does rain it can set in for days at a time and quite violent storms are not uncommon - they normally happen once or twice a year.  During these storms the rain & mud can form rivers down the hills & roads, so there can be a lot of clearing up to do afterwards!

It's definitely still worth coming in the winter, especially if you like peace and quiet and a relaxed atmosphere.

Hope this helps, and I'm sure you will get many more responses

Hello folks!
Just a quick THANK YOU to everybody who sent us a p.m., we now just have to sift through them and decide.
 Thanks again, Steve and Gill.
