Glass lanterns
« on: August 12, 2009, 01:16:07 PM »
I love the shop that sells all the beautiful glass lanterns and lights and every year I say I'm going to buy some of the lovely large hanging lanterns for my garden at home, but worry about how I'm going to get them there in one piece. This has put me off buying them plus I bought some ceramic plates and candlesticks in Greece some years ago and despite mega packaging and clothing as cushioning, they resembled a Greek ruin when we got back :(
Has anyone bought any of these lanterns to take back and how did you manage?
thanks

Friends bought a plate back (large!!) it was wrapped in bubble wrap and a flat box..ask them to wrap it for transporting they do it all the time ,if they are lanterns put them in your hand luggage wrapped again by the shop..my terracotta lamp survived by this means only for the frost to zap it!! ;)
People Of Britain.. When your missus asks "Does my bum look big in this? Never say "Dunno your blocking the light."... just sayin ????

We also brought 4 of the large plates home.  They were very well wrapped by the shop and all survived the journey.

I bought some back last year - the shop wrapped them beautifully but I did carry them in hand luggage.

I bought two glass lanterns back with me in May. The shop wrapped them up perfectly and put them both in boxes and they were absolutely fine when I got them back home to England. They look absolutely lovely with some tea lights in.

thanks everyone...think I'll give it a try when we're there in Oct thought they might be a bit too big for hand luggage restrictions, but I'll give it a go.... :)

Is this the Kaybush(sp) shop? If so EK members used to get a discount, does that still apply Jon?

I priced one in Baykush at 275 lira and bought a very similar one; size, quality, different design from Seyma in the shop next door for 200 lira.  Then spotted them in the Thursday market for around 150 lira!
