Flat screen monitors
« on: August 02, 2009, 05:38:58 PM »
I am thinking of buying a flat screen monitor for my use when in Turkey.  Can somebody advise if and where these can be purchased locally or if it would be advisable, cost wise and choice wise, to travel to Kas and/or Fethiye (bearing in mind I will have to factor in car hire costs etc etc) and if so, where I should go in those places.

Many thanks!  :)

Hi Felicity not often I can advise you on something but we used to change our money in a shop that sells all types of electronic equipment including FSM's. It is located on the left just before the bank.

Many thanks!  :)

Or if you are willing to go to Fethiye you could look at Teknosa, a branch of one of Turkeys biggest electronics shops. If you google Teknosa.com tr you can see the prices and the monitors. It will at least give you some idea.

Last year we bought a flat screen TV and also a DVD player from the BEKO shop on the left as you go up the hill after turning left at Migros in Kas. We had previously done our homework by comparing prices and models at the Arcelek shop above the Kalkan traffic lights and at Kelebeks on the Kas road. There is also another Arcelek shop in Kas on the right going down towards the harbour from Migros. We also took advice from this forum regarding certain brands reliability. With regard to buying from further afield we also took note of the advice that if anything goes wrong it is better to have bought from a local person to be able to easily arrange repairs.

Hope this helps,

KK

In June we bought an LCD flat screen TV from Arcelik in Kalkan (just opposite the petrol station at the foot of the Akbel road).  It is a relatively small screen (~22") which was our choice and cost about 500YTL.  They have a good range of sets and will get anything that is in their catalogue in a few days.  The service was impeccable with delivery to our villa on the same day that we ordered it.

You might get better prices in Kas or Fehtiye but, as you say, once you factor in the cost of getting there with maybe two or three visits to decide on the best buy, any saving on price quickly disappears.  Also you have a local supplier should anything go wrong.

Alan

Thanks guys - really useful information - especially as we now have a benchmark with the Technosa site when we go into the shops in Kalkan!

Cheers all!  :-*

I forgot to mention that teknosa is also an on line company and you can order and have it delivered, although when I have bought stuff its usually from Antalya which has two much bigger shops. The other half also likes the shopping outlets!
