Thanks, I did see this thread but noticed that nothing had been posted since last year so thought it better to start a new one  :)

Last year, we were on the patio of our villa, and quite late in the evening a large lorry drove past very slowly, spraying something!  We swiftly moved out of the way! It seemed to work as not once were we bitten by the pesky blighters in Kalkan - the flight home was a different matter - we were both badly bitten on the plane

Hi Katie,
I've posted lots of times on mosquitos as I have a horrible allergic reaction to bites  :P. This year I took everything with me from Marmite to citronella oil to head and shoulders shampoo...just to add to the industrial strength anihistamanes. This year the Boots own jungle formula with 50% deet, plus antihistamanes for two weeks before departure and the entire length of the stay (June/July) and I'm happy too report only ONE bite...and that was hardly noticeable - may have been some other insect as it didn't swell to biblical proportions ;D ;D
Safe to say, they are not as prevelant this year as previous years - or I may have just got my prevention right  ;D
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Things certainly seem better over the last couple of years....we only got 3 between us in june...mozzie busters came past the villa we stayed in about 4 times during our stay.... but don't let your guard down.if all else fails give the little blighters  wot for with your flippen floppen!!(the skeeters not the mozzie men!) ;D ;D

Sounds like a good plan. I usually do try and take some sort of antihistamanes, although even the non-drowsy ones seem to send me into a daze!

I will definitely check out the Boots own jungle formula - I am going to take a guess that it doesn't smell very nice though?? Is it very expensive?

Thanks guys for all your help  :)

Katieh, I am also a magnet for the dreaded mossies and have found that Boots insect repellant wipes work very well, plus they don't smell too much once applied - anyway, it's more citronella than deet - and they are very easy to use.

Just one or two per evening, applied to any exposed areas  ;), seems to work a treat. I don't seem to get any bites if I use them before going out for an evening. They come in individual (yellow) sachets so you can work out in advance how many to take away with you.

That said, I don't think the mossies are anywhere near as prevalent as they were two or three years ago.

Didn't someone have the ultimate cure with their flippen floppen??

Also I've been told that taking Aloe Vera is good as it gets into your skin (it's also good for you) and the bugs don't like it. I haven't substantiated this yet - watch this space.

The Flippen Floppen is a multi tool..it zaps all manner of bugs and creepy crawlies!! When you become skilled with them you can have one in each hand,if it has too many legs,is just plain ugly or makes a buzzin sound it gets wazzled!!

(guess i won't be on the guest list at Mr Attenboroughs house :-\)

Wish you'd been in M & S today with your flippen floppen BL, an enormous horrid spider was running amok through the ladies department, causing absolute havoc.  Totally ruined my retail therapy
