Does Kalkan have a B-Y-O restaurant?
« on: June 28, 2009, 02:57:10 PM »
It may be a long shot, but is there such a thing as an unlicensed restaurant in Kalkan which would allow you to bring your own wine? Don''t wish to seem a skinflint, but our party will down at least four bottles at dinner when we head out, and at Kalkan prices (30-40TL a go) that is going to hurt!

Last week eight of us went to the Wednesday lamb roast night at Mahmut''s Restaurant in Islamlar. The dinner is £15 per head and included half a dozen different starters, the most wonderfully succulent lamb I have ever eaten and pudding.  If you are not keen on lamb, there are plenty of alternatives, including vegetarian dishes.

They also do a barbecue party every Saturday.

The house wine here is quite drinkable and costs justs 16 lira a bottle.

Included in the dinner price is a free transfer to and from your hotel or villa to Islamlar.  A minibus came and picked us up and took us back to the village later that evening. With taxis now charging 50 lira each way for the journey, this seems to be very good value for money. You do need to book a day in advance

Thanks, Lantana. I am very partial to lamb, and wine at 16 TL a bottle I''m keen on, too. Mahmut''s sounds just the kind of restaurant we''ll head for next month. I take it the web link here is of the same place?
And Kevincat, if I don''''t find a B-Y-O, it won''t be for the lack of trying!

Don''t think Angora is going to cost the 30-40 lira. 22-24 maybe. At least it was in May.
