Earthquake
« on: June 21, 2009, 03:27:35 PM »
Did anybody in kalkan feel the effects of the earthquake, (5.6) the day before yesterday, that occurred in the fethiye, kas and kalkan areas?
Reports on  the Calis Beach forum, Fethiye say there was quite a wobble felt there.

There are  tremors every day in this region. Usually out at sea and occuring at depths below the sea of between 5 and 15 km.

On the 19th of June, 4 tremors were recorded in this region - nothing higher than 3.7 and today there have been 3 tremors recorded, highest 3.5. all at sea and all quite deep below the sea.

For a day by day account of seismic activity check out  http://www.emsc-csem.org/index.php?page=current&sub=list&view=1.   We are Eastern Mediterranean Region

I suspect that any wobble felt in the Calis area had less to do with seismic activity and more to do with the consumption of Efes

Ha ha ha lol. Lantana,
According to your link there was a 5.9 at 14.04 Eastern med sea, perhaps it was this.
Calis beach forum says according to a different link it was a 5.6, and this is what was reported by Turkish t.v. and newspapers
anyway quite a significant earthquake
Anyway it was reported on Turkish news, enough to worry relatives to contact loved ones in the area to see that they were ok.

On the 9th June there was a 4.4 tremor about 50km off the coast of kalkan in the direction beyond the islands. A number of people I have spoken to felt this. tremors are common in this area, it really depends where you are as to whether you feel them or not. it seems bars stools are often very sensitive areas!

I definitely noticed something, the whole of the sofa, that I was sitting on, shook - I thought it was just my imagination - glad to know I''m not going mad ::).

Blue Lizard,

Yes that was me, we were in tomato a few nights back, you obviously scurried by too quick for me to notice, and I don''t have the benefit of seeing your photo!! Unfortunately we are back home now, arrived in the early hours this morning :(

My OH had no idea either, so you are not alone  ::)

Hope you had a fab time, we certainly did. My only gripe was that it felt hotter than ever....but I guess that is something that you scaley [sp?] types enjoy ;D

Ha ha, a hard life indeed, enjoy the Efes. Off to do the same, unfortunately not Efes, but something similar and imagining that we are still in Kalkan  8)
